I can almost feel sorry for her..
So, why not move to the White House?
Shes hiding. She needs to hide so badly that she doesnt care about anything else. Not her country, not how bad she looks, not the money it costs us. She has no shame because, for her, hiding is shameless. It is safe.
She lives behind glass, in cars, in her house, on private planes and private resorts. She doesnt even get out of the car to see landmarks or walk in the park. She is never among the public, not for a second.
Melania Trump is the woman least fit for public service in the entirety of the United States of America. We should expect nothing from her. Shes living inside a dark fairytale, and in fairy tales, the women trapped in towers never save anyone but themselves."

(13,903 posts)IMO, he is a abusive, control freak asshole who thinks he owns his wife.
She isn't hiding. She is being closeted. He doesn't want her out anywhere other when he says to be a accessory.

(51,129 posts)He either goes along or he ends up single again and maybe bankrupted by divorce, or at least financially outed by divorce. But hey, we need to be concerned with political aspects, not domestic relations. What matters is how this impacts governance.

(31,525 posts)This is just my gut instinct, but I see Barron as a very vulnerable little boy who would not be able to withstand the day to day pressures of being the President's son. If that is the case, I can see why Melania wants to keep him in familiar surroundings.

(15,223 posts)My opinion is certainly no more valid than yours as neither of us know for sure, but I have a completely different take.
I don't see her as the doting mother. I see her as pawning Barron off on nannies and butlers. He's a good excuse, but she doesn't want to be bothered by him. I think she likes New York because she likes rich and gawdy. She enjoys the time away from Donald because she finds him repulsive, but she enjoys the money she has because she's married to him.
I cannot see a woman who obviously sold her soul for riches to a man she despises as caring about much of any one or any thing but herself.

(33,360 posts)so I think your analysis is overly judgmental. who knows what her relationship with Barron is?
My opinion is that she's depressed, filled with regret over this choice, and feels trapped. When he dies (and he will, and I want to live to see it), she'll follow his casket by the pale afternoon, watch while he's lowered to his deathbed, and stand over his grave till she's sure that he's dead.
She might even piss on his grave. I would.

(15,223 posts)Yes, opposites generally attract, but there are spouses who only look at the money trail.
The Trump marriage is quite obviously an unhappy union. But I don't understand all of the desire to have Melania be the grieving, self-sacrificing wife and mother. She could leave at any time she chooses. If she cared about her child, she might consider giving him a life with more normalcy. Living amongst gold-plated doorknobs doesn't create an atmosphere of normal.
It's been done before, after all. Look at Marla.
As has been noted, our opinions may differ but one is no more correct than another because the true facts are not known. But I don't think I'm being overly judgmental.

(33,360 posts)I would like to see her leave him, preferably during the campaign in 2020.

(4,492 posts)IMO Michelle Obama did a good job keeping Malia and Sasha out of the spotlight. There was occasional pictures of them at public events (ie egg roll, turkey pardoning, etc) and a family photo, but for the most part they were able to be kids. Jury's still out on Sasha but Malia seems like she's turned out well.
Barron was photographed at the egg roll on Monday. He's the same age as Malia was when her father was elected. Melania very well could have enrolled him in Sidwell Friends (the school of choice for presidential children including Republicans).

(102,331 posts)she is the symbolic definition of the term, "pathetic".
pəˈTHedik/
adjective
adjective: pathetic
1.
arousing pity, especially through vulnerability or sadness.
"she looked so pathetic that I bent down to comfort her"
synonyms: pitiful, pitiable, piteous, moving, touching, poignant, plaintive, distressing, upsetting, heartbreaking, heart-rending, harrowing, wretched, forlorn
"a pathetic groan"
Granted, I don't really WANT to feel sorry for her, given her choices were her own and particularly given her embracing of Trump's birtherism, but she is a sad, pathetic, wretched figure, nonetheless

(33,360 posts)She didn't want this job, and getting rick-rolled at the convention was the final straw. She is really not capable of doing anything but going on stage and waving wanly.
I found this analysis to be over-reaching, but there was insight there.

(448 posts)But she's didn't ask for the extended scrutiny that comes with being in public office.
I do suspect that they are pretty much separated as a couple though and she didn't want to keep up the sham on a daily basis, so Barron is the excuse to stay "at home". It will be interesting to see what she says in June. Honestly, I think it turn out just like him releasing those tax returns - not gonna happen.
It's not lost on me that he hasn't gone to NYC once to see his family.
