(23,971 posts)not so much the exact ratings numbers - i'll assume that's accurate, being that his snake-oil self has attained the highest office in the nation and is driving it (and us) off the cliff at an amazing pace. Americans like disaster movies and action flicks, and this has indications of being both on a vast scale, so people are going to pay attention.
i think he's right about this much, and strangely enough it dovetails from the previous point: the political conversation is very frequently about him. what he did, what he's doing, what he's going to do. one of my co-workers pointed this out to me back in October -- this is how Reagan (another senile actor president) operated too, with considerable success. if Trump can make the conversation all about Trump and then wave shiny meaningless pablum in front of the media, that's a big -- excuse me, "tremendous" -- advantage for him. as long as the media opts not to hold him accountable, and to be fair that is not an easy thing to do, he can play for pure coverage territory and maintain an advantage going forward.

(12,448 posts)Yes, never mind that Spicer's ratings are up because people can't help watching a trainwreck, even though they know it's wrong to look. Or that Melissa McCarthy's portrayal of him on SNL prompted people who never watch a presidential press conference (correctly thinking them usually boring) tuned into Spicer, just to laugh. But hey, ratings are up, and that's all Dump knows or cares about.
Reality TV. Dump thinks the presidency is reality TV.
