This was a hilarious thread- he always stood up for his friends.
https://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=8114765
We both loved coffee. We PM'd. I knew his real name - he knew mine. One day we were going to meet as friends with shared interests.
His words
Funny, but I've always seen you as a good friend and ally on DU, long before knowing your real name. I hope we'll meet in person one day. I'd love that!
We never did meet but what sustains me now is that I did send him that bag of BMbeans for Christmas and he loved it.
Rest dear brother. I offer comfort and sympathy to his family, loved ones and friends.

(156,297 posts)These are the rarest of the rare. I had one like that too, and it changed my life.
What are the odds that we would encounter such a soul on the internet? Slim to none and yet it happens. Everyone benefits.
But when death takes our friend away, especially prematurely, then the grief can be overwhelming.
Thank you for your wonderful post, my dear malaise...

(294,130 posts)To think that we never met - he had the character of a Jimmy Carter - watch that video that he gave countryjake (on Sheshe2's thread) You'll cry.

I finally found the strength this afternoon to make it thru listening to find him toward the end of it...I knew he was pictured during the Rainbow song, but all three of those tunes are so heart wrenching to hear now.
DU needs a collective hug
Love ya, malaise

(294,130 posts)I cried watching the video - building the home was lovely to watch but the music was so hard to hear at this time.

I've lost one other close friend here--WCGreen. It was an amazing friendship.

(68,340 posts)heart wrenching time.
I joined in the summer of 2004. Kephra and Andy both died not long after I became aware of the work they did and how valuable their contributions were. Even after such a short time on DU I felt their deaths as a blow, despite never having had personal interaction with either of them.
I knew pinboy only from his wonderfully clever puns. He could always come up with her another one, even when it seemed nothing more could be done with the material at hand.
Language and literature are my specialty, so I spotted his clever wordplay almost immediately, and I always delighted in his posts. Other than exchanging puns with him on occasion, I did not personally interact with him on DU, but when I saw the first post announcing his death, I felt gobsmacked. I still can't quite believe he is gone.

(294,130 posts)When he didn't post on a coffee thread, I had a feeling something was wrong. Then when he didn't respond to the shout out and folks especially denbot tried to make contact, some of us were really worried. And then we got the bad news.

malaise
(294,130 posts)but it had a lot to do with how he said it (wrote it)and there are many who will remember what he did - he worked super hard with Vets and young folks helping vets. So he may well be remembered for all three.

(4,491 posts)...and he got results. You should have heard me tell my Treasurer and Campaign Manager about the contributions that poured in after he posted for me. They couldn't get over his success and the generosity of DU...and he planned to come out and walk & knock (canvass) for me. Now, I imagine he was diagnosed about that time, but wouldn't tell me. He continued to post for me and passed on great enthusiasm that lifted me up when I was down. God, I loved that man.

(8,554 posts)immediately, one of the many threads I'd bookmarked previously for outstanding reminiscence:
https://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=1911231
His own posts on that thread are magnificent, heartwrenching, and poignant, so I rocked out first to every one of the songs he'd put up, then moved on to everyone else's...note the others on there who are also no longer with us... and ended up just listening to John Fogerty til the wee hours.
This one right here gives me goosebumps to read now:

(62,536 posts)He was a great friend of mine during the Libyan Revolution, helping regularly update about what was really happening there, as opposed to the mindless Russian propaganda that filled the forums. Now we see that Russia has such good psyops throughout the internet that they elected a meme president and are well on the way toward creating a mess in the EU sphere.
It is heartbreaking for me right now to hear this news. Won't post or read again for weeks.
