Noam Chomsky on Republicans: Has anyone ever been this committed to ending human life on Earth?

Linguist, author and political philosopher Noam Chomsky asked whether any organization in history has been as nihilistic and seemingly dedicated to the extermination of human life on Earth.

In a discussion with Democracy Now!, Chomsky reiterated his remarks from earlier this week that the U.S. Republican Party is the most dangerous organization in the world.

“I also said that it’s an extremely outrageous statement,” Chomsky said. “But the question is whether it’s true. I mean, has there ever been an organization in human history that is dedicated, with such commitment, to the destruction of organized human life on Earth? Not that I’m aware of. Is the Republican organization—I hesitate to call it a party—committed to that? Overwhelmingly. There isn’t even any question about it.”

when people come up with plans to end life on Earth, I wish they would start with their own and leave ours alone.

So happy to have Chomsky alive to comment on these trying times. If only Gore Vidal and Christopher Hitchens were still around

a blowhard. He called George W. Bush, "George Washington", for his invasion of Iraq, and other ill-founded analysis.

Gore Vidal was always a clear thinker, so we are on the same page there

I know he was for the war in Iraq initially and while initially critical of Bush, he did let some praise shine through towards the middle of those hellish years. He was a big Barry O supporter in 2008. I mainly wish I could hear him take down the pundits of today. Hitchens in terms of education and vernacular was unrivaled. I would love to see him rip Limbaughs head off.

When you get enough technology so that the rigidly and morbidly self-centered wealthy who are sure they are the elite of the world can affect large groups of population instantly, they're going to want to ensure those populations are buried with them when they go.
That way, one doesn't have to justify oneself to the future. One goes out being "the greatest", and that's that. They win.

It's the right of ancient tribal kings. When they're gone, their world is gone also. Their slaves and all their prized possessions were buried with them.

And that's why the current Republicans - and other Oligarchic mobsters - are willing to destroy the world. It means their God wins. Their "Team" wins. Ultimately, they win. Who cares if there's only the dying left to witness their triumphs?

"Look upon my Works and Despair!" - as winds whip sand from thousands of miles away over the empty ruins of their mansions and country clubs a hundred years from now and surviving insects - and maybe a few small rodents - scurry for cover.
