(31,112 posts)think they have to "sell" anything to anybody.
This is going to be a meeting where the Senate is told what is going to happen and why, as a courtesy, and even THAT surprises me.
Trump and just about everybody in his administration are guilty of crimes, multiple crimes. The war is needed to avoid justice.

(25,247 posts)Ring #3. It is showmanship from Trump to make it look like he is doing something.
Have any of the Senators posited on what this meeting is about? Have any of them been interviewed before they got on the bus?

(47,209 posts)The disturbing thing is they want to do everything without a paper trail. Or witnesses. Transparency has never been more important.

(18,655 posts)The word war in the traditional definition. If it was to get approval to launch ground-based military operations against North Korea the meeting would not have been delayed as long as it has. It would have been done days ago.
I also doubt that it is about an immediate strike against North Korea. If that were the case it would only consult the members of the Armed Forces Committee and head Republicans. The full Senate has too many voices that will want to be heard.
Do I think it is about North Korea and possible military options being discussed, yes. Likely this meeting is an attempt to avoid the Syria Fiasco of having so many senators say they should have been informed. The administration will claim this is a blanket announcement of any potential future strikes.
Also it is helping to establish a pecking order. He makes the Senate come to him thus he has peed higher on the tree.

And after His Worship's Royal Decree, yummy chocolate cake will be served and a good time will be had by almost all.

(43,182 posts)We bombed an empty Syrian airbase in response to the Assad government gassing its people, and many in the Senate expressed some concern that they were never conferred about this beforehand even though we did tell Russia beforehand (hence the fact that the base was empty when we attacked it.)
So in response to this criticism, they're doing this dog and pony show to prove that yes, they did talk to the Senate before doing exactly what they planned to do in the first place, which is to bomb North Korea.

In return for the king's "generosity" he expects them to give him stuff that he wants. Quid pro quo.
