Cutting taxes will raise revenue!

How can they keep pitching this Milton Friedman nonsense for last 50 years when it has been tried countless times and has actually happened a total of... never? Reagan, W., Pinochet's Chile, Brownback's Kansas, again and again and again. It's never worked. Why do people still buy it? Is it just because it just sounds so wonderful or does the average Republican know full well it's nonsense but it's a convenient quasi-intellectual cover for their personal greed?

2. This is even stupider than the stupid concept of trickle down economics

The general trickle down idea, that improving conditions for the wealthy will improve the economic condition of the average worker is mostly nonsense. But the specific assertion that cutting tax rates will spur some much economic growth and income that individuals and companies will actually pay MORE in taxes at the lower rate is something that has never happened. It is demonstrably false.

3. yes, the economy would have to grow by 5% to offset a rate cut of 5% (e.g., 40% to 38%)

event the partisan joke economists can't say the effect would be that large for such a small tax cut with a straight face.

It doesn't have to work. They still get what they want. We're just a bunch of morons who keep voting them into office. They're lovin' it! Greatest job ever...just get elected then give yourself free money.

I'm talking about the idiots that buy it. It's like telling a farmer "Hey if your crops don't get water they will grow deeper roots and produce even more corn. That's right! Less water more corn!" That sounds pretty good and a gullible farmer might try it. But how many years would his crops have to all die before he figured out he was being lied to?

Because they are great at labeling with hot-button buzz words. "Liberal" was turned into a dirty word, despite it's root in the world liberty. We're commies, your grandpa's favorite hate word. Socialists, despite the fact that we're a very socialist country. Yet, we are damned near a third world nation. We no longer want to care for our seniors or educate our youth. Turkey has bullet trains, we can't get Amtrak to run on time. They are great at messaging, and Democrats are not. As stated above, we try to say "look, they're bad," instead of saying what good we will do. They just lie through their teeth and stoke fear about everything, and it's easy pickins. Bogeymen under every bed. And we do nothing to counter it.

Why in the world would MN want a surplus? Don't they know that DEBT is the American Way?

They need to get rid of that surplus, otherwise they might have money available for a rainy day. And everyone knows it doesn't rain in MN.

Their buddies/lackeys in the media (many of whom make enough to really enjoy a tax cut focussed on the 1%) will parrot it along.

9. I Am Cutting My Client Fees, To Improve Revenue

I decided that if it's good enough for the government, it's good enough for me.

I'm cutting my hourly rate by 50%, which should boost my profits by an even wider margin. Using the government's calculations, I figure I'll be making 20% more net income, with clients paying half as much as they used to.

Remember these idiots have been brainwashed by Fox News for two decades and by right wing radio for much longer. They primed the pump and dumbed down the average Republican so much that they'll believe almost anything.

When the windfall doesnt materalize and in fact causes a huge deficit hole, they get to blame the government for irresponsible spending that they caused. And they get to act outraged with a straight face.

Thats like the icing on the cake

If cutting is going to raise revenue like that, I say they need to do across the board cuts on the price of their products by 15%! Just imagine how much revenue they'd have if they did that!

with that dumb argument? I've been hearing it for 30 years. The claim is that it occurred due to Reagan tax cuts. People made more, so the lower percentages resulted in more money. Never do prove it with actual figures though.
