With all the books and the media telling us why we lost, what conveniently gets swept under the rug

is the media's complicity:

"Media Freak Out At FBI Letter, Disregard Facts And Run With GOP's False Description Of Clinton Email Review"

https://mediamatters.org/blog/2016/10/28/media-freak-out-fbi-letter-disregard-facts-and-run-gops-false-description-clinton-email-review/214184

"How one Congressman punked the media on the FBI letter about Clinton’s emails
No, the FBI did not say it would ‘reopen’ its investigation."

https://thinkprogress.org/trump-chaffetz-fbi-investigation-lies-e9fff5359102

"NY Times Floods Front Page With FBI Letter Stories While Acknowledging It Didn’t “Reopen” Clinton Server Inquiry"

The media has been doing this for some time now. Being loose and fast with the facts. The most obvious example was the WMD lie that led to our invasion of Iraq, but there are a lot of examples.

When Chuck Todd said:

"Chuck Todd: It's Not Media's Job To Correct GOP's Obamacare Falsehoods ", that statement itself spoke volumes about the sad state of journalism in this country.

How close Hillary Clinton came to winning, even against everything that was stacked against her.

I mean, she DID win, by 2,865,075 votes! But, only 60,000 votes in THREE states kept her from the prize.

Why did she lose?

Russian hacking DNC emails
Wikileaks posting DNC emails
Russian trolls
Russian fake news
Nasty Facebook memes
Comey’s interference
30 years of Republican smears
Bengahzi, Bengahzi, Bengahzi!
But… email server
And… I am convinced… Russian hacking vote tabulators

Take away *any* one of those bullet points, and she would have won… handily. The fact that she still *almost* won while being buffeted by all that, constantly, speaks very highly of her campaign, and her, personally. Her campaign was one of the best, ever, and to paint it as anything less (I’m looking at you, “Shattered”) is just not true.

Were there missteps? Of course, there always is.

But each and every second, each and every miniscule litte detail was planned and executed to near perfection. Only Obama’s 2008 campaign was run better.

So, the fact that she wasn’t completely buried and lost by just 60,000 votes out of approximately 125 million is an amazing accomplishment. And, the fact that it too ALL THAT to bring her down… THAT should be the story.

Ever since the ridiculous Shelby County decision, Republicans have had a free run to dick around with the voter rolls, knowing that whatever mischief they enact will not be undone in time for the next election. Then, when their scheme is ruled unconstitutional, they come up with another one (or, just run the same one again, and let it proceed while it's tied up in the courts). We definitely need to regain control of more state legislatures and governor's offices and stop this crap, particularly in close states like Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Michigan.

I can count on one hand the number of times the media has done any real reflection on itself. They are very good at bragging, but really lousy and being self critical. The mistakes made in this election are habits that formed over decades in the industry. Basically at this point they can't see the forest because all of the trees are in the way.

Trump himself said it at a rally and the news channels played it on a loop for about a week.
The only question is if Trump was clever enough to lie and he played the media or if the media worked it out with him ahead of time.
Sad state of affairs in the good ol' USA
