(65,489 posts)keeps improving the technology! My first aids (analog) in the 1990s barely helped. My digital aids help much more, but still not enough. However, the technology does get better, so in the future, one can hope hearing aid tech will help the hearing compared as much as glasses help most who are near- or far-sighted.

(28,394 posts)I couldn't tell from the clip, but I thought I detected a British accent. I wonder if this technology was a result of government-backed research -- which the drumpf administration is trying to cut in this country.

(41,991 posts)Radio Lab did a great podcast recently on sound, music and language. One of the studies they reported on had found (not surprisingly) that parents' tonalities when talking to their babies is the same the world over. The rises and falls to encourage and connect, to soothe, to correct are the same. Hearing that mom do that and her child hear and naturally respond for the first time just...chills and happy tears.
