There is room in our tent for remorseful, former deplorables.

The more we make that clear, the likelier we are to win in 2018 and 2020

No room for deplorables in our tent, I don't care how remorseful they are.

The idea that a person can not be forgiven for literally anything is the groundwork for most of the vile bigotries that run our world. If you support that, well, you own it. Full stop.

...is not. Your comparison is terrible. Religions do not cause problems in the world, people who choose to interpret religion in a way to justify bigotry cause problems. It's a fundamental error of attribution. And what prompts that bigotry in the first place?

Oh, right, the idea that they are somehow different and unforgivable.

Like last night, when a Catholic Papal Midas Bull came into my room and wanted me to seek Absolution for my previous Excommunication that the Imp of Separation delivered unto me. Suddenly, from nowhere, an Inquisition was begun by ghostly, disembodied voices, all shouting questions to me until I relented and sought forgiveness for my sins. Of course, since no people are involved, forgiveness was denoted by a little 'WHOOSH' sound, a golden glow, and a +1 to my IRL Strength stat. Once I had forgiveness, the bull went on his way. Oh, and while it was happening, I saw another angel fly overhead (it looked like six wheels, ringed with feathers and an eye in the center of each wheel -- see the Book of Enoch for a comparison) to go and give the mental suggestion via osmosis to the muslims down the street to start a fatwah.

I'm starting to get the hint this site just isn't for me anymore.

As the racists and sexists and bigots and xenophobes. Should we let them in our party? Fuck no, or at least not until they've done a whole lot of soul searching and changing.

The average Trump voter? The ones that were ignorant or scared or misinformed or just prone to making stupid errors? Those are the people that we have to convince that they have more in common with us than differences, and that our interests and theirs coincide. A lot of those people are not exactly sophisticated thinkers and they've been taken for a ride by Authority their whole fucking lives.

"Trump has made life harder for transgender people, for refugees, for the poor, for Muslims, for residents, etc... and I am sorry that I was a part of that and I truly want to make it right."

is different than...

"Trump didn't deliver on his promises and I wish I never voted for him."

The second group will just vote for another Trump in the future.

I am now a hard core liberal democrat. I was lied to for 40 years but was complicit because I believed what made me feel comfortable.

President Obama made me change my view just by being the good man he is.

I will vote in every election and am able to contribute to the party and candidates if I choose.

I welcome anyone into the Democratic Party like Christians ideally welcome coverts; Without looking at their sordid past.

Have a nice evening.

And I swear that I will do all I in my power to help those in my previous condition see the errors of their ways, repent, and start trying to help the people of this nation.

And you have a nice evening. Or night at this hour.

Seriously, there are lots of Southern republicans who are only marginally interested in politics and will return the Democratic Party as I did once we stop being afraid of telling them what the government under the Democratic Party will do or them. Or their parents. What the Republicans plan for our old folks takes us back to 1900 when if you were old, poor and had no family you just died.

but if they decide to vote Democrat, that's fine by me.

I live in a conservative farming and ranching community - in fact, I actually rent out an old farmhouse in the middle of an alfalfa farm - and my neighbors pretty much all voted for the Traitor. Almost my entire county went for him. Not all my neighbors are bigots by a long shot and I spoke with any number of them before the election. For the most part, they voted as they did because they always have voted Republican and they were voting more against Hillary than they were for the Traitor. Not that I think this is a very good excuse for voting for such a sorry, sorry excuse of an human being. But I do feel that at least some of them might be amenable to reason - one or two have actually expressed regret to me for voting for that creature in the first place - surprised the hell out of me! But if they want to vote Dem in the midterms and 2020, I'd be happy to accept those particular lost sheep. Bigots, no. But bigots would never come around, anyhow.

Do you take the word of people who actually voted for a racist, misogynistic lunatic (who actually proclaimed who and what he was for all to hear) that they have changed their ways and now have seen the sweet light of liberty? Or do you keep them at arms distance so that they cant shove another knife into your back and the backs of other liberals and progressives.

Fool or hurt me once, shame on you, and no...I wont welcome you with naive open arms and let you do it again.
