Multiple times in freezing Christmastime weather. Washington's Crossing, PA. About half a mile north of where I-95 crosses the Delaware River.

I don't know why Washington didn't just take the interstate.

I drove down to Titusville (or something like that), NJ, so my daughter and I could spend Christmas with a friend from CA who was going to graduate school in NJ... and she took us to the reenactment. She also took us to Valley Forge, and it seemed like a (too!) good time of year to get a feel for the "winter at Vally Forge" experience.

I have relatives in the area. Washington's Crossing is the little town across the river, which you can see in the background of this photo.

Wonderful old houses, great seafood, wide beaches (with warm water courtesy of the Gulf Stream), and Southern hospitality.

Makes me wonder why I left for SoCal.

This episode is recounted in "12 Years in a Gulag" by Frederick Douglass--the story of his enslavement by the Roosevelt family and his subsequent emancipation by Ronald Reagan's famous Berlin Wall Proclamation.

There is a plaque on a house in Charleston indicating George Washington stayed there. I'll have to look through my photos of past visits to Spoleto and see if I can find it.

Here is my husband in front of the Heyward/Washington house in Charleston in 2012.
