I'm so sad. He and I first met in high school in 1975, and he went on to become a high school English and drama teacher, adored by thousands of kids to whom he introduced musical theater and plays. We reconnected a number of years ago and re-bonded over our mutual love of politics and all things progressive. We spoke just last Friday, and he seemed in great spirits and had no complaints. A heart attack claimed him on Saturday.
I will miss you desperately, Eric.

(4,188 posts)He was fearless on so many levels, and always had my back as I tried to have his. I hate that I won't hear his wisdom every day.

(2,243 posts)You and all of his students, which is the ultimate achievement for a teacher. I'm sorry for your loss, and I'm glad you had a chance to reconnect for the last few years. In a tiny homage to your friend, I'm making it a point today to get in touch with a few people I haven't spoken with for a while.
He sounds like a very dear person.
