The stated position of the United States is that our Embassy is and will remain at Tel Aviv.

Actually, since 1995 the law has been to move the thing to Jerusalem, and it has only been through a bi-annual waiver from the executive branch that it has been suspended on an incremental basis.

Like you, not looking to debate the pros or cons or wisdom of the actual position, but as far as "stated position of the United States" it has really been that the embassy belongs in Jerusalem, at least according to Congress.
