(2,037 posts)The class of mostly John Birchers and Jim Crow bigots elected on Reagan's coattails in 1980. Grassley always struck me as murderous, someone more than happy to have enemies killed if it suited his ends.

(9,117 posts)One of my phone banking assignments during the 2016 election was to call folks in Iowa and ask them to vote for Hillary. I was also encouraged to ask the to vote for Grassley's Democratic opponent. Even when the folks I talked to said they'd vote for Hillary, as often as not they said they'd still vote for Grassley.
It appears that they did.

(49,369 posts)intelligent, and seemed to have a deep sense of what it meant to be a Democrat on the side of working class Americans. I was sad to see him retire, although I thought he deserved to live a comfortable retired life after years of outstanding service to America, and the Democratic Party
Over the years, I've found Grassley to be a conniving, back stabbing sellout to big money interests.
I could never figure out how the state of Iowa could send two completely different senators to congress for so many years.
Btw, I'm not, or have never been a resident of Iowa. I met Sen. Harkin through connections with my union.
