I still like O'Malley, but I realize he might well fail to catch on in 2020 just as he did in 2016. He's clearly running, so we should know about his viability early on (again).

I think Biden would be a very strong candidate, but I'm concerned about his age. Anyway, he says he's not running.

I'll wait to see who enters the race.

He'd be a good candidate, but I don't think he wants to be any part of it. I don't blame him.

I don't get too much into "shoulds" Trying to figure out why these differently-focused groups seem to be on two different tracks and seem sometimes to be at cross purposes.

It seems the horse-race focused and political operative people get into the presidential candidate selection early on.

Nothing else matters at this point. We're in the mess we're in partly because we've had such a myopic focus on the white house for far too long. Is it important? Absolutely but as we've seen, thinking about that too far out takes the focus off of the here and now. Senate races. House races. State houses. Dog catcher. Right now all of those things are way more important than the white house in 2020.

That being said, I love Franken and would love for him to run.

...part of our problem is that we spend too much time chasing what we think will excite the voters and it comes off disingenuous.

We know what is right, we know what we need to do, and we have the data to back it up. So we need politicians who are going to get out there and excite them for what we have to offer and what we know will make their lives better not what we think they think they want in this particular fleeting moment.

Besides being very intelligent, he's not afraid to speak out about anything to anybody and his biting humor cuts to the quick when he brings it out.
