I still have a nagging feeling that Comey was blackmailed into alerting Congress.

Giuliani is mixed up in this somehow, for example, if Comey DIDN'T report to Congress, then Giuliani would ruin his career by claiming Comey was part of a cover-up involving Russia and Hillary Clinton.

It wasn't so much Bill Clinton visiting Loretta Lynch and/or the e-mails found on Anthony Weiner's laptop, though they were a good distraction.

Comey more or less admitted that he doesn't tell Congress every time he's opening an investigation. There must be a reason why he broke protocol, and it wasn't to save the integrity of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

1. I think there is an awful lot of republicans willing to forfeit this country to save their own hide

For whatever reason. Mafia type threats from the Trump admin, maybe something illegal or perverted is known by someone about someone and is being threatened with that exposure? Who knows.

But I think there are many involved in this that have something on them and they will allow the country to be pilfered and destroyed to save their careers or reputation. If we know nothing about republicans, they are out for themselves first and foremost.

I can also say he could have done it for other reasons. One thing is for certain in my mind though... he didn’t alert congress for the reasons we've been told. Nothing about this is as it's meant to look like.

4. Maybe, but I don't think Giuliani's influence - on its own - counts for much.

By now, everyone knows what a weasel he is (or should know).

6. There were reports anti-Hillary agents were going to leak damaging info

The New York FBI office was filled with conservatives who hated Hillary. There were reports that they were going to leak lots of anti Clinton info. Maybe Comey felt he could head them off by his own revelations. Rudy obviously was being fed info, contrary to law.

Personally I think Comey is honest but foolish.

Obama has said that also.

7. He blackmailed himself or so he says

If you believe Comey he obligated himself via his congressional testimony and ill advised statements. His options were to "conceal" or to "reveal". Oh Lawdy!

Maybe I'm as dumb as a box of rocks, but I think he could have sent Congress a letter saying that he misspoke during his testimony and per departmental policy would be unable to keep them apprised on the status of any investigation.

If Comey stayed silent, the info about the new emails would have leaked. And that version of the story - corrupt Justice Department buries new Clinton investigation - that story would have been ten times bigger! It would have burned out of control and the FBI would have been hobbled.

So Comey sends the letter and he quickly investigates. He exonerates Clinton as quickly as he can. And he hopes the damage is minimal.

This scenario explains why Obama hasn't come down in Comey. And it sets up what we've also heard about Comey now. He's hot on the trail of those corrupt people within the Trump campaign. He wants justice applied to those who weaponized that email story and effectively blackmailed him. First up, Guilani. If I were Rudy, I'd be scared right now.
