Honest question: Could someone explain the Morning Joe thing?

I worked on the Hill in the 90s when Scarborough was nothing more than a soldier in Newt Gingrich's takeover of the House. He stood out only by being young and obnixious, and later because of whispers involving his interactions with an ill-fated intern.

I've watched bits and pieces of the show, but can't stand to watch for more than a couple of minutes. It's completely empty and shallow. In terms of Mika, she's got a stellar resume, but every clip I watch she's simply trying to add to the collective wisdom of the day, which is almost always heavy on the intrigue and gossip, but short on substance.

I understand why it's a staple for Politico and a bathrobe wearing Trump, but why is there a thread on it every day on DU? And why do people care so much about their personal lives?

I'm not trying to knock anyone who watches. I'm just curious because I don't get it at all.

I guess for some it's like an accident, they just can't stop looking.

For years I would occasionally flip over to Fox News just to see how horrible it was. Getting that riled up wasn't healthy, so I put on a parental lock on it.

I get butterflies in my stomach thinking that I would be subsidizing a lot of content that I find offensive. So we stay with over the air broadcast TV. I guess 11 channels are enough for us.

I like some of the people they have on as commentators, but I usually flip back and forth between MSNBC and CNN.

MSNBC started out with the come-on that it was a younger, unspokenly Liberal audience. In that early phase the draws were Tweety and, I think, Keith, and three hours in the middle of the day with Ashleigh BANFIELD and another young woman.

After a few years, Joe Scabs was guesting with Tweety, who planted the idea of his transitioning from politician to yakker on MSNBC, which eventually happened, I think, with an hour show at night.

In 2007, the Morning Scabs and Mika Mouse thing happened. Where the o.p. says she has "a stellar resume" - uh, she's the usual spawn of connected parents. I doubt that she would have gotten whatever jobs without having been the spawn. Yes, she worked as a lower level whatever under Dan RATHER, and to her credit, she still refers to him with respect and even reverence in the years when he was sandbagged.

Anyway, the reason some of us (used to) have interest in them was that it was the Before-Days when there was no Rachel or Lawrence, and in the beginning we thought or hoped they would be our Lib outlet.

Well, MSNBC is nothing if not schizophrenic, and they have always had wingnuts in the extreme featured prominently - like Pat BUCHANAN, and questionable Mike BARNICLE, then even giving a show to Michael "Savage" WIENER who blew himself up with a tirade alleging AIDS on a Lib caller and then something misogynist against Ashleigh BANFIELD.

Tweety was a CLINTON basher in the '90s, and was HORRENDOUS to GORE during Coup-2000 with DAILY bashes on GORE, and went on a years' long crush on McCAIN and then a homoerotic crush on Shrub, culminating in his performing some role of getting DONAHUE off the MSNBC air in the jingoism of the Iraq Attack.

All of this was the leading up to 2007 when the Morning Scabs carnival started. Yes, we had hopes, despite BUCHANAN being a regular back then.

Scabs was horrible from the start, doing the male power/dominance, not only over Mika Mouse, but even with the poor weatherman, who is still there, abusing them all verbally. The weatherman was always Correct in his demeanor and accepted the abuse without comment, just doing his job. In the last few years Scabs has laid off him. Mika Mouse has always been submissive, deferential, and a doormat.

By Campaign '12 I finally had enough and stopped looking completely. I only started peeking in in '16 when they were alternating from boosting DRUMPF to bashing him.

Yes, we were interested because the two of them were parading a domestic violence relationship in front of our eyes. Last week when they supposedly had a "spat" and he was even more verbally abusive, I suspected and called it here (below) that it was a ruse and their "vacation" was probably a honeymoon if not an intervention for couples.

74. Yip, ever since they went on the air it has been a horrid demonstration of his abuse of her

The case example of an (at least) emotional/verbal abuse, which if in the home would escalate to physical. And she behaved as the enabling victim. Now that they have both divorced and are rumored to be an item, if not already married, it's like she has progressed on to Stockholm Syndrome. I saw the clips of his outburst two weeks ago, then came their "vacation" which I suspect was either an intervention/couples or a runaway marriage and honeymoon. I stopped watching in Campaign 2012, and just started up in a small way in this horrible 2016
