By Nikita Vladimirov - 05/06/17 05:15 PM EDT
MSNBC host Joy Reid said Saturday that her show invited the 217 House Republicans who voted in favor of the GOP's bill to repeal and replace ObamaCare to come on her program, saying none accepted the offer.
"My tireless producers reached out to each and every one of them to ask them to join us today," Reid said during her show "AM JOY," ad the names of the GOP lawmakers flashed on the screen.
"I offered each of them the lead spot on this show this morning, to the one-on-one with me, to explain why they voted for the bill. And not a single one agreed ... all those names," she continued.
"217 people, no takers. Not a one," she added. "Such bravery."
House Republicans are bracing for encounters with angry constituents as they return to their districts this weekend following the healthcare vote.
The House on Thursday narrowly passed the GOP plan aimed at repealing and replacing former President Barack Obama's signature healthcare law, with 20 Republicans joining all Democrats in voting against the bill.
Democrats have accused GOP lawmakers of passing dangerous legislation that they argue will result in loss of coverage for many Americans.
Republicans, however, have remained committed to their pledge to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, arguing that it made the healthcare system worse over the years.
The legislation is now headed to the Senate, where Republicans have vowed to make major changes.

(11,986 posts)The Repubs are not going to get 60 Senate votes for anything like this bill, with only 52 Repubs.

(26,291 posts)I want people to lose their healthcare but rather because I want the Democrats to regain control of Congress soon followed by major corruption investigations into the Repugnants because I will wager you that there is a shit ton of it.

(11,986 posts)McConnell already shot that down. And while I wouldn't necessarily believe anything he says, there's no indication that *anyone* (other than Trump) thinks this is a feasible approach.

(26,291 posts)have nothing to lose he would do it in a heartbeat.
Besides the real reason he isnt doing it is he knows they fucked up over doing it over Gorsuch and hes hoping to prevent the Democrats from undoing the shit Mitch and the other Repugnants are trying to do now as well as heading off a potential investigation in the future because with 60 needed the Repugnants would have alot of power to prevent investigations via blackmail over withholding support on future bills.
Without that blackmail though he and other Repugnants might be spending time in jail if any investigation was to uncover criminal activity like colluding with Russia to assist Trump.

(47,953 posts)They only need 50 + Pence if they go that route. We shall see how 'moderate' some of those senators really are....

(26,291 posts)2018 and 2020 will be a slaughter for them provided the Democrats play it smart.
thesquanderer
(11,986 posts)That only requires the 50, but it only applies to spending bills, and this bill has to do with many things other than spending. As I understand it.

(49,001 posts)I think a prominent Democrat in District NY19 suggested this.
Was a DU thread or two about it. Could a kind member post a link if they have one?
