Idaho town hall erupts after GOP lawmaker says "no one dies" from lack of health care

Raw Story
May 6, 2017

Voters attending a packed town hall in Idaho booed and shouted down their Republican congressman after he attempted to defend the House passing a replacement for Obamacare by telling the crowd "no one" in the US dies from lack of health care.

Appearing less than 24 hours after the GOP-dominated House of Representatives passed the American Health Care Act (AHCA), Rep. Paul Labrador (R-ID) was on the receiving end of complaints from the audience and at one time admonished them to stop being rude, reports the Idaho Statesman.

At the town hall at Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston, Idaho, Labrador was confronted by a woman who told the lawmaker that she feared the loss of health care protection under Medicaid would result in deaths.

"That line is so indefensible," Labrador said.
"Nobody dies because they don't have access to health care."

Those folks are armed up there!

Idaho is such a beautiful state. Although I love our place here in Colorado I'd really like to be able to explore living up there. But it's just so right wing.

Maybe there's hope, after all.

No lie, a Republican State Congressperson here in Ohio JUST made this very argument......VERBATIM.......on a friend's Facebook page about 2 weeks ago (my friend is a political type who has several Ohio office-holders among his many Facebook friends, and they comment on his posts occasionally). And true to form, he got his ass handed to him when other commenters posted study after study showing that upwards of 45,000 people die every year from lack of access to healthcare.

Do you mean an Ohio "state legislator," or a US Congressperson from Ohio?

If it's the latter - the "talking point" likely came from House Speaker Eddie Munster or the WH.
If it's the former - the "talking point" may have come from the Trump campaign, ALEC, some GOP lobbying group, a GOP PAC, or some secret GOP group that operates in all 50 states.

Pretty sure he's a lowly State Rep, but I really can't remember. I was having trouble finding the verbiage to accurately describe him. So thanks for that.

Just looked it up. He is a State Rep.

They get a mountain of data with FACTS (the real kind. Not the fake alternative crap they try and pawn off on people).
