It's not that anyone has counted any votes yet; the figure for Macron's vote comes from opinion polls:

"According to a source from the French Ministry of the Interior which aggregates the results of several institutes of opinion polling and opinion polls ..."
"Selon une source du Ministère de l'Intérieur français qui agrège les résultats de plusieurs instituts de sondage et d'enquête d'opinion ..."

Opinion polls.

Didn't the opinion polls all have Hillary Clinton winning? I, for one, won't rest easy until the votes are actually counted.

(which is why this is not saying anything new) so this really isn't comparable to the Clinton-Trump polls that had her winning by a few points (and, after all, she did win the national vote; they got the vote in a few states wrong by a few points).

its reporting until the polls actually close at 20:00 CET (at least in the cities).

RTBF is from French-speaking Belgium and has a bit more leeway. But its information is usually accurate. It was spot on in the first round. I am keeping my fingers VERY crossed though.

Here is one French source with up-to-the-minute reporting: http://www.rtl.fr/actu/politique/en-direct-resultats-election-presidentielle-2017-macron-le-pen-7788416410

polling groups are calling the election for Macron! There are still a couple minutes before the polls close in the big cities.

It looks as if France dodged the Le Pen bullet. Thank heavens!
