Let me be clear about this: I do not, in *ANY* way support *any* GOP senator, representative or even governor. I did go to high school with one that does, though...and that person posted a FB status that falls over itself for Jim DeMint. I included all of it for context, not for endorsement...but the last two sentences say it all...
The shit's getting ready to hit the fan, y'all.
I will post the whole status way below...NOT because I agree with it, just for context, but here are the last two sentences: "In the coming weeks and months you'll likely hear some contemptible attacks on the personal integrity of Senator Jim DeMint (and likely some of his aides). I can tell you in advance they're horseshit." <<<<----- Mmmm Hmmm.
The whole thing:
As some of you may have noticed, I've generally tried to keep political posts out of my feed. My mental health is better served by complaining about Orioles pitching, worrying whether the Steelers will be able to stay healthy, or just generally posting pictures of dogs. I did want to take a few minutes though to write a post about recent events in DC, although I'm going to try my best to not make it a political post.
As most of you probably know I had the privilege of working for Senator Jim DeMint for a few years. When it comes to being a winger (and those of you who know me know I use the term with great affection) Senator DeMint is second to none, but more importantly when it comes to being a decent, honorable, and humble human being the Senator is second to none.
There was more than one occasion when my zeal upset many people in the genteel confines of the United States Senate (I probably didn't even see the line as I blew past it) and it would have been easier for all involved for the Senator to cast me to curb. (I had seen other Senators allow staff to take the fall in similar situations.) Nonetheless, the Senator stood by me and exhibited a personal loyalty which was both inspiring and unique.
There was an occasion when I was personally disappointed about a decision and the Senator took time to speak to me personally and tell me what he thought, an act of kindness that was in no way necessary. We often say in Senate offices that the most precious commodity if the boss' time and the fact that he took time out of his day to talk with me when he knew I needed counseling meant a great deal to me.
It was a humility and empathy consistent with a man who hasn't forgotten his roots or been captured by Washington. Senator DeMint is the kind of guy who when at a field hearing in a large city with great night life packs it in early before 9pm so he can catch the next episode of 24, who for most of the time I worked for him drove a high mileage Crown Vic, and lived in intern housing while running one of the most influential think tanks in the country.
Capitol Hill has a reputation for having bosses who are insufferable but who are suffered because of their position. (the yellers, the dirtbags, the dilettantes) I've worked for some of these people. Senator Jim DeMint simply is not one of these people. Senator DeMint is the kind of guy who you would want as a neighbor and most certainly the type of guy you would want to work for. He is simply personally exceptional. And more so within the beltway.
So next time you gaze upon the Capitol with disdain and wonder what type of people we are sending there - politics aside - let me tell you, you want more Jim DeMints.
In the coming weeks and months you'll likely hear some contemptible attacks on the personal integrity of Senator Jim DeMint (and likely some of his aides). I can tell you in advance they're horseshit.

(5,811 posts)story. https://thefederalist.com/2017/05/02/the-coup-against-jim-demint-threatens-to-tear-apart-the-heritage-foundation/ This seems like an inappropriate post for a forum dedicated to democracy and Democrats.
BTW, I don't think it's possible to be a member of the Republican party and be an honest or moral or exemplary person.

OP was indicating they did not support the defense of DeMint.

(10,291 posts)The self described 'winger' wore Nazi stuff in high school too. True story.
And even though I haven't seen this person in more than 25 years, I have been FB friends with them for more than 10 and they never, *EVER* post about politics.
Seriously. They were working for Cruz when the KGOPB primary was going on, and not even then.
Something's up

(6,916 posts)DeMint had disgusting politics.
He turned Heritage into a nest of hate.
DeMint is well known for comforting the well off and lending a hand to the rich while screwing the poor and needy.
Save your human goodwill for men and women whose policies help other humans, not just treat their staff well. I'm glad this staffer had a moment from DeMint. But if the staffer were poor or needy, he or she has been hurt by DeMint and his disgusting policies.

(423 posts)Even if DeMint made things more extreme, Heritage was like that long before he was around.

(81,855 posts)I did think it was notable that DeMint was gone from the Heritage foundation. He was pretty anti-Trump during the primary and Trump loves to dispose of enemies. So maybe the poster above is correct about him preparing a primary challenge.

(10,291 posts)I *almost* posted, "DeMint's the worst of the worst", but I had to go back and delete that shit, because, sadly, it's not even true in this day and age.
Then a chill ran through me

(10,291 posts)because I think the shit's getting ready to hit the fan.
Also, people on there said I was posting right wing endorsement, which I did not, nor do I, do.
DeMint's an asshole, and he's getting ready to 'get his'. Karma's a bitch, but only if you are...
Oh, and he *is*

(102,225 posts)FB is notorious IMO for disseminating dubious material and spin.
Perhaps DeMint is being attacked for posing opposition to the Trump forces. He is, in and of himself a despicable character so may they both self-destruct going after each other.
LaydeeBug
(10,291 posts)and I *bet* we have dirty money in this.
I don't think it;s *just* anti-Trump (or maybe there's more?)
I have about as much love for DeMint as I do for DeLay

(61,694 posts)It would have been helpful if the quoted text had been in italics or block quoted to set it off. I know it seems like a petty thing to comment on, but these minor formatting tricks using the devices on DU can make a big difference in understanding the OP.

(844 posts)This is more reason to think that the Mercer's have dirt on their own Repugs and will dish it when they want to move pieces around.
If you remember the speculation from earl last week it was that Rebekah Mercer was angling to give Bannon the Heritage job after his eventual WH washout. Could just be the next step in that chain of events.
