(7,430 posts)Remember all of those stories about a quid pro quo? Russia will help with the election if Trumpy helps Russia by lifting sanctions. That's likely the crux of the matter. A deal like this makes sense from all that's been available to read. Those four or five phone calls made by Flynn to the Russ Ambassador on one day-- after Obama imposed further sanctions-- were about the quid pro quo. Flynn gave Kislyak assurances that Trumpy would lift the sanctions.
Flynn is also reportedly the coordinator of nationalist/fascist movements throughout the EU and UK, on behalf of Putin. That comes from those damned twitter threads that pop up on Mensch's feed. But it makes a bit of sense, based upon what's commonly understood about Flynn's range of behavior.

(6,262 posts)But that would take some time to develop, so it must have sounded like a much more immediate threat.
Very intriguing to say the least.

(7,430 posts)Mensch is also onto other information... that Flynn was coordinating nationalist movements all throughout Europe on Putin's behalf.

(16,068 posts)Flynn failed to list his foreign contacts while attempting to get a security clearance, by failing to do so on the SF-86 form, whether deliberately or by omission is considered to be a felony!
This could be the reason that the FBI didn't offer Flynn a deal about a month ago! They already have him committing a felony by not filling out the SF-86 truthfully!

(29,198 posts)and consorted with other traitors to collude with the Russians to throw the election (and elements of the FBI, apparently).
But that is speculation at this point.
What we know he did was to operate as a foreign agent with declaring so... and to take money from foreign governments or their agencies (RT for example) without getting permission. Both for Turkey and for Russia.
In addition, he appears to have lied about this to someone from the government (possibly, unless those people also KNEW about his Russia contacts and THEY subsequently lied about his conversations with them to the media and the American public).

(135,805 posts)[Flynn did not initially reveal income from Russia-related entities]
The public criticism by the senior Republican on the Houses chief investigative panel is unusual and presents a dilemma for the White House, which was accused of failing to provide everything the committee asked for an assertion White House press secretary Sean Spicer disputed.
Chairman Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) and the panels ranking Democrat, Rep. Elijah E. Cummings (D-Md.), suggested that Flynn broke the law. Flynn was ousted in February after misleading Vice President Pence about his contacts with the Russian ambassador.
The lawmakers said they believe Flynn neither received permission nor fully disclosed income he earned for a speaking engagement in Russia and lobbying activities on behalf of Turkey. They reached the conclusion after viewing two classified memos and a disclosure form in a private briefing Tuesday morning.

(19,966 posts)Rachel was all over this phrase used several times at the hearing but she couldn't get anybody to tell her what that means because it's classified. I'm guessing the FBI has evidence of more compromising behavior by Flynn that nobody has leaked to the media. Yet.
I'm also guessing that a possible motive for Flynn doing this stuff was payback for being fired by President Obama and for some people at DIA not supporting him. Joining the racist, Obama-hating Trump and helping him win by any means was his revenge.

(51,129 posts)As a private citizen, he was undermining the government of the United States (Obama) and interfering in foreign affairs. And he lied about it to the public, as did trump and Pence.
The interesting thing is he likely did all this illegal stuff at the behest of trump and Pence. But they fired him for lying to them, the pretense being that trump and Pence could not possibly have known anything illegal was going on or that they would in any way condone making a deal with the Russians before being sworn in.
Heres a timeline of what we know about national security adviser Michael Flynn, his contacts with Russia and his resignation. We will continue to update it as more information becomes available.

Obama administration action
The Obama administration announces measures against Russia in retaliation for what U.S. officials characterized as interference in the 2016 election, ordering the expulsion of Russian intelligence operatives and slapping new sanctions on state agencies and individuals suspected in the hacks of U.S. computer systems.
Russian response
Russias Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announces 35 U.S. diplomats will be declared persona non grata. We, of course, cannot leave unanswered the insults of the kind; reciprocity is the law of diplomacy and foreign relations, Lavrov says. Thus, the Russian Foreign Ministry and officials of other authorities have suggested the Russian president to announce 31 personnel of the U.S. Embassy in Moscow and four diplomats from the Consulate General in St. Petersburg persona non grata.
Incoming Trump administration response
Flynn speaks by phone with Russias ambassador to the United States, Sergey Kislyak, and discusses the sanctions and suggests the possibility of sanctions relief once Trump is president. The call is monitored by U.S. intelligence agencies.
Dec. 30
Russian government action
In a surprise, Russian President Vladimir Putin announces in a statement that Russia will not take action against the sanctions.
As it proceeds from international practice, Russia has reasons to respond in kind, Putin says. ..................

Logan act by talking to russians about sanctions
Accepting money from russia with out permission
Accepting money from Turkey with out permission
Not disclosing afterward on security clearance form either so 2 counts there
Not disclosing meeting with russians
Not disclosing meeting with turkey about possibly kidnapping the cleric
Plotting to kidnap someone during that meeting
Acting as a lobbyist with out registering as one
He called Russian Ambassador Kislyak the same day President Obama announced sanctions against russia. There could be another logan act violation for a second time.
