Perhaps Comeys most surprising revelation was that Huma Abedin Weiners wife and a top Clinton deputy had made a regular practice of forwarding hundreds and thousands of Clinton messages to her husband, some of which contain classified information. Comey testified that Abedin had done this so that the disgraced former congressman could print them out for her boss. (Weiners laptop was seized after he came under criminal investigation for sex crimes, following a media report about his online relationship with a teenager.)

The problem: Much of what Comey said about this was inaccurate. Now the FBI is trying to figure out what to do about it.
FBI officials have privately acknowledged that Comey misstated what Abedin did and what the FBI investigators found. On Monday, the FBI was said to be preparing to correct the record by sending a letter to Congress later this week. But that plan now appears on hold, with the bureau undecided about what to do.
ProPublica is reporting a story on the FBIs handling of the Clinton emails and raised questions with government officials last week about possible inaccuracies in Comeys statements about Abedin.
It could not be learned how the mistake occurred. The FBI and Abedin declined ProPublicas requests for comment on the directors misstatements.
According to two sources familiar with the matter including one in law enforcement Abedin forwarded only a handful of Clinton emails to her husband for printing not the hundreds and thousands cited by Comey. It does not appear Abedin made a regular practice of doing so. Other officials said it was likely that most of the emails got onto the computer as a result of backups of her Blackberry.
It was not clear how many, if any, of the forwarded emails were among the 12 classified emails Comey said had been found on Weiners laptop. None of the messages carried classified markings at the time they were sent.

(5,730 posts)Their lying characterizations.
I flipped to fox afterwards to see what the masses are being fed, Eric Bowling was saying, it was all nothing but a political grand stand, as the Repub Senators had made clear.
From my POV, watching it, Dems won. However, the masses don't watch this
They see the clips of the snide Repub Senators giving the finger to the libs, and they love it.
We need to invade the RW media. They are invading us.
Reality doesn't matter much. It is what the media makes the masses BELIEVE is reality. It is going to take a lot of education to get past that. We can't even get an independent investigation.

Maybe she didn't feel like lugging her computer around, and she occasionally checked her emails on his computer. Maybe she didn't realize they were being stored in the cache or the backup. Most computers have automatic backups these days so it's not too hard to retrieve older saved memory.
She could have deleted the emails out of current memory, not intending to leave them on his computer, but they might have been saved anyway. It's a possibility, and nothing nefarious going on.

(19,564 posts)It's fair to assume she never realized it ever would be since she was just an assistant to the SOS. I'd assume actual classified (at the time) material would be handled differently.
I worked a contract auditing a federal government entity not long ago. I had security clearance for the, and most things were dealt with via our private network. However, some items were sent to my private mail which were deemed non sensitive at the time. I can understand how this can happen.

How those 1000's of emails made it to her estranged husband's laptop is veryyyy interesting.

(53,776 posts)planted the emails remotely on Weiner's computer in order to help trump.
Comey wasn't in the loop on that, allegedly. He was only tipped in late October, thus his infamous letter.
With this latest revelation that Comey lied in his recent testimony about this, I'm even less impressed with Comey's ability or intent to round up the "unusual suspects" who he claims he's investigating.
They just might get away with this shit if the arrogant and slightly nauseated Comey doesn't know what the fuck he's doing.

(781 posts)were found on Weiner's laptop. Comey thought/hoped included in this trove were the 30,000 emails (that allegedly were deleted by Clinton et al?). You know, the emails tiny hands asked Putin to find.
Please correct me if I'm wrong (can't get past paywell on WSJ site).

(7,403 posts)That Comey was untruthful about what the FBI had, even saying that what they had was a backup file. What Comey was really looking for from that backup file was email that Clinton had deleted after the backup was taken. And they found some - like the one where Clinton and Abedin discussed what they were going to wear to a function that night. What this really did was to fully exonerate Hillary Clinton.
