Yet we all know it's been done for corrupt reasons. The cover-up will continue. Problem is, if you have to go all of the way to the Director of the FBI for cover, your cover is already blown.
Fuck Comey.

(18,672 posts)It's about abuse of power. Welcome to the coup. I'm no fan of Comey, but Trump firing him is not a good thing.

(30,481 posts)He is a rogue FBI Director who used his position to get Trump elected. But her emails....

(18,672 posts)You must be young. This is worse than Watergate. Much, much worse!

(10,500 posts)OK...maybe what Trump did was too.
But let's not ignore what Comey did. It was horrifying.
liberalmuse
(18,672 posts)Comey did throw the election, however, he did it because he is spineless and caved to pressure. That Trump did today was thumb his nose at our laws in a big way (he's done this before, but this is BIG). What Comey did does not even compare to Watergate. It was bad, and will hurt our country for years to come. We are in the midst of a coup - c'mon, we all knew this was coming. Republicans finally stopped at absolutely nothing to subvert our Constitution for their own gain. I stand against this, and all of them.
NCTraveler
(30,481 posts)Wow. That says it all.

(10,500 posts)what happened in the last election was. The FBI Director was not incompetent, he was thoughtful. He trashed HRC over and over again.
Comey and Chaffetz put Trump in the White House. Their actions were also a threat to our democracy.
liberalmuse
(18,672 posts)But abuse of power and obstruction of justice by the most powerful leader of the free world vs a spineless FBI Director releasing information because he is afraid of someone like Chafftez...This was bound to happen. Anyone who was outraged by Nixon or has been watching Republicans their entire fucking life isn't surprised, and we know which is the greater threat. I can despise Comey, but he is gone, yet Trump is still in power, doing what he chooses without any checks and balances. He's essentially shit on our Constitution and has complete disregard for our laws. You won't see me patting that orange piece of shit on the back for a completely self-serving decision. Trump scares me more.
NCTraveler
(30,481 posts)Yes, he did go completely rogue during the election.

(18,672 posts)They will do anything to get power. Comey was just their spineless pawn.

(16,539 posts)It's so odd to me that people can't have contempt for Comey while also understanding this is 100 percent about Russia and corruption on Drumpf's Part.

(18,672 posts)Comey is spineless...weak, but Trump needs to be thrown out of office. By firing Comey, he's shown total disregard for our laws. He's the one who has gone rogue, and Americans are just sitting on their hands watching this shit. This fucker needs to be tossed out on his ass - he is destroying our nation.

(2,495 posts)Whatever Comey may have done in the past the question going forward is what is best for the integrity of ongoing investigations. The answer there is clearly Comey being in charge vs whoever will Trump replace him with.

(6,979 posts)That tRumputin's puppet installs to head the FBI doesn't try to find grounds to prosecute Hillary on something else. tRumputin DID promise his deplorables that he'd jail crooked Hillary. Yes, the counter terrorism wing will continue on with the tRumputin/ruskie investigation. However, tRumputin doesn't CARE about how things look.
Finally, I hope I'm completely wrong on tRumputin going back after Hillary again in trying to cover up all things russia. At the very least, the new FBI head will start closing down russia investigations where it can be shut down.
Rotten and messy crap tonight.

(15,512 posts)He's a snake and getting rid of him is a good thing.

(6,979 posts)This is bigger than Comey now.
Also, do you think that tRumputin would stop at nothing to try to stall, stop or draw attention away from russiagate? If that weasel tRumputin can find any way to take the heat off of him, the ruskies and his immense ties to russia .....
This mentally-declining, scared, old man installed in the White House--with the help of russia--will stop at nothing to get what he wants. He owes russia, the oligarchs, putin his puppet-master, fellow lovers of Kleptocracy a LOT. How do we know that putin didn't tell his puppet "Get rid of Comey, or I'll release your federal income taxes." We know that tRumputin is black mailable.
The rule of law is done for now. tRumputin's all about power, self-preservation and paying back russia--OR ELSE.
ucrdem
(15,512 posts)He needed to go and Trump had cause to fire him so that's the way it goes.
LenaBaby61
(6,979 posts)tRumputin may have technically acted within the law, but for him to fix his lips to say that he got rid of Comey because of how unfair he was to her in releasing Hillary's emails 11 days from the election is the biggest whopper ever told in history. tRumputin ran on Comey butting into the GE, but more recently Comey et all were getting too close, and you best believe putin told his puppet to get rid of him.
As for Comey himself, I believe that there was a reason he did what he did in bringing up Hillary's emails 11 days before the GE which was the final cherry on top amongst other things that lead to her losing to putin's puppet. Hell, I've always and still believe that Comey was being blackmailed by "someone" who had something big on him, and who also didn't want Hillary to win the presidency.
Finally, I surely don't trust thuglicans to object WHEN tRumputin installs his very own puppet to head the FBI. This bunch values party over country. Like I also said, tRumputin is mentally declining, and was scared and knew Comey was getting close to him, but he's cognizant enough still to want total and complete power at any cost being the raging, raving, megalomaniac that he IS no matter how it looks to anybody, plus, he owes a lot to that other part of his Kremlin Klan and has to pay up or else.

(8,554 posts)Oh well, Trump and his minions "have their story" now and they're stickin' to it, fascism be damned.
This morning's presser made it very clear what he assumed the response to firing Comey would be, as tho such a move could ever please anyone who is worried about preserving democracy in our country.
That he's now claiming he'd considered getting rid of him ever since the Election...what a friggin' joke...or that his new director will be "more competent" ...the spin is getting so fast, we're all gonna drown.
