Thread for the future - what were you doing when you heard about Comey's firing?

We were eating dinner - salad of fennel, apples, walnuts, manchego cheese, dressed with olive oil and sherry vinegar - recreated a Tapas dish we had a Jaleo in DC over the weekend.

Checked DU - there is was.

This seems - well, HUGE!

Wolf had breaking news, then there was five minutes of commercials. Then the breaking news was the FBI letter correcting Comey's testimony. While they were talking, big breaking news interrupted the panel discussion for the big shocker.

Tue May 9, 2017, 07:58 PM
May 2017

It's a good thing I was finished with sliced them - I could have cut a finger off!

On the other hand, the squash and onion are truly locally grown - the squash is out of a home garden grown by inlaws - they gave away about twenty pounds this weekend and the acre of squash is still producing about an hour's drive west of here. The onions are Vidalia sweet onions, grown about the same distance to the east.

Yesterday I sliced the squash, parboiled it for about three minutes, plunged it into ice water to stop the cooking, drained it well, laid out the slices on cookie sheets covered with parchment paper, and put them into the freezer. Today I dumped the frozen slices into freezer bags. Tomorrow after the onion is chilled, I will portion it equally among the freezer bags with the squash.

I won't need to buy squash for a few months!

Got a clarifying text from him at a red light on the way home around 7:15.

toast some walnuts

Thinly slice one bulb of fennel
chop one granny smith apple into small pieces
slice one granny smith apple into very thin slices
cut 4 oz manchego cheese into small matchstick pieces

Mix everything up together - we served it on a bed of leaf lettuce.

The first thing I heard after the alarm clock went off at 6:15 am local time (Germany) was my boyfriend reading out loud the major "SPIEGEL Online" headline "Trump feuert FBI-Direktor Comey".

I was shocked and immediately grabbed my phone to find out what's going on. I wish I could say that I couldn't believe it, but I was actually afraid of exactly this happening for some time now. House committee investigations killed, Senate committee investigations killed, Comey fired – I hope someone is still taking care of this.

It was school skate night at our local rink. I'd just spent two hours chatting with the other parents while watching my kid and his friends skate and play games.

I got in the car and checked DU before driving home. BAM! I was shocked.

I don't have cable news channels and my TV is rarely on during the school week so DU is my main source of breaking news.
