For me it's like a Greek tragedy.
Comey is the source of our downfall. BUT, he was probably the source of our possible recovery. Trump may now have put an end to an investigation that would have revealed things for what they are.
I don't know how to feel.
How are you all feeling?

(115,681 posts)I remember very clearly the Saturday Night Massacre in October of 1973, and how furious I and pretty much the whole country were. This feels exactly the same. But maybe Trump has forgotten how that event effectively sealed Nixon's fate.

(16,104 posts)Somehow or other, when Republicans are in charge - we still find a way to get JUSTICE.
And we found a new friend- Deputy AG Rosenstein.

(19,459 posts)This doesn't sound good:
In a memo to Sessions, Rosenstein laid out the reasoning for firing Comey.
Rosenstein said that over the past year, "the FBI's reputation and credibility have suffered substantial damage" that has "affected the entire Department of Justice."
"I cannot defend the Director's handling of the conclusion of the investigation of Secretary Clinton's emails, and I do not understand his refusal to accept the nearly universal judgment that he was mistaken," Rosenstein said.

He can do that - what do we know about Trump investigation - a year old now?

(16,104 posts)The FBI director should have said nothing!
If asked or something "came out" - he might have said the FBI has concluded any investigation and submitted the results to AG Lynch and the prosecutorial team.
It was Loretta Lynch's job to explain why there was no material finding for a case! If SHE said anything at all!
This is his reference to "concluding" the investigation.

(19,459 posts)Yesterday Sally Yates said she had full confidence in Rosenstein. I hope that is a bright spot in all of this.

(17,622 posts)...and now Comey can freely say what he thinks. I have mixed feelings about comey..kinda like how I feel about Lindsey Graham.

(16,104 posts)While the FBI was investigating Trump a year ago - it was all Hillary.
Just before the election - Hillary and Huma.
Just this week - more Hillary and Huma.
Comey on Trump - "Shhh, super secret." Which he will be required by law to maintain. Calling up Comey is useless - unless you want more fanciful commentary about Hillary and Huma - and Anthony, now!

(10,010 posts)I have had my doubts that all the things I had been reading could not possibly be true. Was I falling for conspiracies??? Now I am asking myself are there really no members of the GOP that put America first?
I guess we will find out soon enough.

(24,726 posts)I am noticing a pervasive subdued tone - Elizabeth Warren; Mark Warner; NPR guys...
On the one hand, it is clear there is seething panic just below the surface - many are still gobsmacked.
On the other hand, I think the professionals are doing what they can to protect the stability of our country, and with that as their goal, trying to exude and maintain calm.
Fired because he was too hard on Hillary - MY ASS!
This is going to separate the patriots from the traitors in the GOP.

(32,080 posts)I have so many mixed feelings about this. On one hand, this is "Saturday Night Massacre, Part 2." We all know how that turned, out. I'm hoping for a repeat. OTOH, we've had our hopes dashed on other occasions, too. (Merry Fitzmas! Oh. Wait. Never mind.) I want to believe that this is the beginning of the end for Putin's C**k Holster and his merry band of traitors. But, part of me is scared shitless that this is just the first step in securing permanent power. Like you said, it will separate the patriots from the traitors in the GOP, and I'm not so sure there are enough patriots left in that ratfuck party to save us.

(63,837 posts)going to get caught, Comey's firing is really unfortunate, maybe he was getting closer to the truth. Would he spill the beans since he is no longer with the FBI as an independent force?

(62,406 posts)I think there are no ends that Trump won't go to to save his own ass.
The question is how far will his party go with him.
This could be a glorious moment for the country or a spectacular end.

(5,477 posts)This will not end well; even some in the GOP are seeing that this is not normal.
He fired the guy that was investigating the Russian connection, on the recommendation of the guy that supposedly recused himself from the Russian investigation. Congress will be in recess; watch for him to make an absolutely abysmal recess appointment to replace him.
He claims to have always admired Nixon (he has a letter from him, saying that DJT might be a good POTUS some day). I think that he may just be trying to break that shitbag Nixon's record on time from inauguration to forced resignation in disgrace.

(781 posts)Irregardless of my anger and disappointment of his actions regarding Hillary's emails, today's actions by Traitor trump tells me that Comey was in fact supervising an independent investigation into traitor and his minions.
How else can it be explained?!!! If Comey was in White House's pocket, he wouldn't have been fired. It's obvious.
Does anybody expect tiny hands to appoint a FBI director with integrity and independence??!!!
