So is firing Comey an offensive or defensive move?

I had a disturbing thought today after discussing Comey's firing with a co-worker.

One possibility is that Trump fired Comey to complicate and slow down the Russian investigations.
This is the most obvious and simple minded view and so it might be the case.

Another possibility, more far fetched but more worrisome, is that someone else made this decision and talked Trump into it for other purposes than to protect him.

A co-worker mentioned that it smacks of Bannon to him but Bannon's influence has reportedly been diminished in recent weeks.
We heard a while ago that Bannon was being pushed out and soon after news about him seemed to fade away.

Well, this could be true or it could be Bannon himself who masterminded this rumor which allowed him to move out of the spotlight so he could influence the direction the administration takes without the world watching. He might still active, implementing his deconstruction of the US government behind the scenes.

Trump certainly isn't smart enough to make saavy political moves. He has no idea how government works so wouldn't be able to manipulate it effectively on his own but as a puppet controlled by a more intellectually superior advisor behind the scenes, his bumbling could be manipulated into something truly dangerous to the future of the country.

Whatever is happening I believe we are only able to see the facade. There is a lot more going on behind the scenes that would be more disturbing if we knew about it. I just hope that it's the Three Stooges running the show, as it looks to be, rather than a methodical coup being implemented by someone unseen, step by step.

Proactive might be a better expression.
They think they can string this thing out long enough to over take it with some other crisis.

Keep an eye on North Korea.

It's both an offensive move and a move out of desperation. Things are moving fast and getting critical these days.

connection and close the file. I thin he's nuts & that won't happen, EVER. I think he realized he couldn't forve Comey to do as he said, and he's going tto try with the new guy. I think he made matters much worse!

Defense - Takes the heat off the investigation.

Offense - Allows him to appoint a lackey to do his bidding.

1. Comey was supposed to be drawing back on his statements about Huma Abedin's email.
2. Slow down the fbi investigation. (Don't think this will work since it's the intel division over it.)
3. Replace with someone favorable to dipshit.

Edit added one more

4. Throw doubt in to fbi investigation.
