At some point soon the Republicans will go into CYA Mode

All House members up for re-election next year and they want to increase their total of Senators plus maintain or add Governors. But with people seriously pissed off about immigration, loss of education, the healthcare BS, and now a rogue President who I think THEY think is nutty then a fruitcake...they will at some point go into self-protection mode. Not all of them of course. But hopefully enough of them to make a real difference. These dicks all want to be re-elected and the albatross of Trump could cost them very significantly in 2018.

they'll never be able to scrape it off their shoes, and the stench will follow them forever, or at least until the next time they run for re-election.

When you see about 5 Republican heavy hitters coming out and disagreeing with the President and some of those now calling for an Independent Investigation (and also Rep Amash in the House) things are getting more interesting.

Back in January there was a lot of big talk about the GOP increasing their seats to 60 next year. doesn't look real promising for them at this point. And if this were to get real messy and Drumpf's approval tumbles into the low 30's, or lower, well...all bets are off at that point.

Gerrymandering defeatism aside I believe the GOP will take heavy losses in the House in 2018.

Frankly if the Dems can stay at 48 in the Senate that would be a good outcome. But we need to crush in the House and take the thing back. And hopefully get up to about 20 Dem govenors.

I have been saying this for awhile. They will continue to hold their nose and toe the line for as long as they can. They do not want Democrats in power and they will continue to cover up for Trump as long as they can and try to undo Obama's legacy until there comes a point where the writing is on the wall and they have to break ranks. At some point, they are going to have to think about their own careers and what side of history they want to remember being on when the dominoes fall, and I am becoming increasingly convinced that the dominoes will fall. I wasn't so sure before but given that I live in the DC beltway I'm starting to hear more and more things from insiders that convince me. Its going to take time but I think it will happen.

trying to figure out when its time to abandon ship. Many may be holding out hope that Trump can't be proven guilty but if it reaches a point where they see the handwriting on the wall they will be overwhelming the lifeboats in droves.

The lesson they have learned over the past two decades is that extremism and insanity cost them nothing at the polls.
