Was not a winning strategy after all.
Who knew ?
Well, most of us really.

And then still lose, as with the other backed candidates that lost.

(49,990 posts)FWIW, there are only two groups (outside of Dem candidates) that my wife and I donate to regularly. NARAL and PP. On the liberal spectrum of women's rights, I'm probably further left than 90% of Democrats. Just wasn't in the mood to re-hash the personality conflicts from the primaries.

(49,990 posts)Of course we need to talk about women's rights. But this was more about who talks about rights. This mayoral race wouldn't have been much of an issue here, but Bernie happened to endorse Mello and that didn't sit well.
It seems it's OK for some to endorse Dems who want to restrict women's rights. Very few around here seem to be as angry at Schumer for endorsing pro-lifer Bob Casey Jr. Or Bill Clinton endorsing pro-lifer Joe Donnelly. And there are more like that. The problem this time was that it was Bernie speaking up. Just about anyone else, and this race would have been mostly ignored.
JTFrog
(14,274 posts)Look, I can find plenty of people complaining about Casey going back to when I first joined DU. I can find plenty of people complaining about Donnelly even this year. Now you're gonna see plenty of people complaining about Mello.
Get over it. Your argument is ridiculous.
Expect women to speak up whenever they can about this bullshit. No more being thrown under the bus. PERIOD.
progressoid
(49,990 posts)I'll not hold my breath waiting for DU's condemnation of their pro-life bull shit. I just did a little google search of DU and very few expressed outrage during their previous runs. I expect most will have to hold their noses and vote for them again.

This constantly throwing women under the bus is what is fucking tedious.

(49,990 posts)This is why I said, "never mind" up-thread. Regardless of what I say, it seems I'm going to be tarred as a bad guy by some because I supported Bernie first, then Hillary. Sorry, I'm not. In fact, my wife and I spent last night working with other local party volunteers on increasing outreach to people in our area. Including, but not limited to, minorities, women, LGBTQ, young people & immigrants.
We're on the same side. And we likely agree on 95% of the issues including women's rights.

And here you are, cheering the loss of the Democrat.
Given a choice between the two, I always support the Dem, even if he or she is imperfect, which is almost always the case, as they tend to be human.

(19,236 posts)It's fucking NEBRASKA. Who do you think the Dems could have run there that would have won?
I agree, it's completely shit that the only choices were a pro-life Dem and a pro-life GOPer in this race. The women of Nebraska deserve far better than that. But I honestly don't see how, in this particular area, you could have run anyone else more to the left and somehow won.
alarimer
(16,245 posts)So, "always vote for the D" only applies to certain issues? Because I have been urged constantly here on this site that conservative Democrats are welcome, if they are in red states, which Nebraska certainly is, because that's the best we can do there.
And you know what, as much as that irks me, it's probably true.
What about Sen. Bob Casey? I guess we can let that seat go to an R.
And as a matter of fact, this guy was only conservative on the choice issue. He is pretty much middle of the road otherwise. But it's Omaha, so that's to be expected.
