CHICAGO -- U.S. Rep. Peter Roskam (R-Ill.) is the target of an early Democratic congressional effort to oust GOP members in 2018, including some recently considered to be in safe districts.
On Thursday, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee announced that Roskam was among 20 Republicans nationally it is pouring an unprecedented amount of resources into defeating. The move comes less than two weeks into the start of President Donald Trumps administration.
Here are the results of his win in 16. This is in Illinois and outside in not so far suburbias of Chicago
I don't see those traditional heavy republican voter areas changing on house elections although I hear good news , it is more like committes want to target him but I don't see the voter turn over.
Roskam garnered 201,194 votes, while his Democratic challenger, Amanda Howland, received 136,655 votes, according to unofficial results from Cook, DuPage, Lake, Kane and McHenry counties.

(1,306 posts)Don't overlook the power of the press. There *will* be a reckoning! The firing of Comey just made their job even more important, and they will step up and they will have *all* the details. Everything the IC knows will be made full public. How and when is the question. But, somebody inside the FBI will leak everything. I'm convinced.
Why?
Because...

After that, it's just a matter of the public giving enough of a damn to do anything after that.
Oh, dear god, we are so screwed...

Ultimately, IMO, the future of democracy in US will be determined by the success/failure of state courts (NY in particular) to prosecute related RICO cases in a timely manner.

(7,434 posts)If you look at the factors that need to be in place for a functioning fascist government, the US is already there from an institutional/financial POV. The social aspects are catching up. Soon there WILL be violence and extreme civil unrest, as well as the stripping away of civil rights. That's the last part of the takeover of fascism. Everything else is in place.

(90,785 posts)Fascism/fascist thought has been in America since the 1920's.
American Fascism: From the 1920s to Trump
America's Changing View of Mussolini and Italian Fascism
They have managed to integrate fascist thought into their governing style and Americans blindly call it the Grand Old Party, accepting the premise of fascism - though seldom called by its rightful name - as a legitimate structure for our democracy - in the form of an opposing party - under the guise of healthy debate - necessary and vital to America's democracy. We have reduced America's version of fascism to a mere "policy difference", with the GOP claiming that Democrats/Liberals are trying to criminalize politics by objecting to their authoritarianism.
America is not headed toward fascism - America has been in a constant struggle against fascism for almost a 100 years.
*** Nationalism and super-patriotism with a sense of historic mission.
*** Aggressive militarism even to the extent of glorifying war as good for the national or individual spirit.
*** Use of violence or threats of violence to impose views on others (fascism and Nazism both employed street violence and state violence at different moments in their development).
*** Authoritarian reliance on a leader or elite not constitutionally responsible to an electorate.
*** Cult of personality around a charismatic leader.
*** Reaction against the values of Modernism, usually with emotional attacks against both liberalism and communism.
*** Exhortations for the homogeneous masses of common folk (Volkish in German, Populist in the U.S.) to join voluntarily in a heroic mission_often metaphysical and romanticized in character.
*** Dehumanization and scapegoating of the enemy_seeing the enemy as an inferior or subhuman force, perhaps involved in a conspiracy that justifies eradicating them.
*** The self image of being a superior form of social organization beyond socialism, capitalism and democracy.
*** Elements of national socialist ideological roots, for example, ostensible support for the industrial working class or farmers; but ultimately, the forging of an alliance with an elite sector of society.
*** Abandonment of any consistent ideology in a drive for state power.
