General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsHave you contacted your Representative and Senators about the appointment of a Special Prosecutor?
I have just finished e-mailing Republican Senators Burr and Tillis (NC) and my Democratic Representative Price with this request:
I am writing to urge (name of Senator or Rep) to do everything possible to convince Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein to immediately appoint a Special Prosecutor to investigate the possibility of collusion between the Trump campaign/administration and the Russians now that FBI Director James Comey has been fired by Trump. Our democracy depends upon getting to the truth.
I do not believe for one minute that the firing of Mr. Comey had anything to do with the poor handling of the investigation of Hillary Clinton's e-mails, but more likely that Mr. Comey was getting too close to the truth about the connections between Trump and Russia.
Mr. Trump has shown himself to be a pathological liar. How his staff could believe that anyone with half a brain would accept these reasons for firing Mr. Comey now just shows how little respect they have for the American people.
Please, (name of Senator or Rep), do everything you can to get a Special Prosecutor appointed. I am old enough to remember Watergate. We need (Senators/Representatives) now--as we did then--who will put country before party and stand up for the Constitution of the United States.
I doubt it will make any difference to Tillis, but Burr has surprised me with his reaction. This is what he has posted on his website:
Statement from Senate Intel Chairman Burr on the Dismissal of FBI Director Comey
WASHINGTON Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Richard Burr (R-NC) today made the following statement on the dismissal of James Comey, Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation:
I am troubled by the timing and reasoning of Director Comeys termination. I have found Director Comey to be a public servant of the highest order, and his dismissal further confuses an already difficult investigation by the Committee. In my interactions with the Director and with the Bureau under his leadership, he and the FBI have always been straightforward with our Committee. Director Comey has been more forthcoming with information than any FBI Director I can recall in my tenure on the congressional intelligence committees. His dismissal, I believe, is a loss for the Bureau and the nation.

(31,372 posts)I think it's imperative that we FLOOD the Senate and Congress with requests for a Special Prosecutor. We just cannot wait for or expect politicians or a new head of the FBI to continue with the investigation of collusion between Trump and Russia.
And I'm not sure we'll make it to free and fair elections in 2018.
And to see Trump yukking it up in the Oval Office with a Russian today? Unfuckingbelievable.

(31,372 posts)If you believe Mr. Trump's reasons for firing FBI Director James Comey--related to the investigation of Hillary Clinton's e-mails--instead of the likelihood that Mr. Comey was closing in on the relationship of the Trump campaign/administration to Russia and its interference with our election, then I'll bet Mr Trump and his family know about some property in the Ukraine in which you might have some investment interest.

(31,372 posts)up to now. But I'll be damned if I won't go on record on this.
We are about to lose our democracy.
It may be more important for Texans to flood your media with insistence that it's time to put the country before party. Who knows? If we do get
to free and fair elections in 2018, it may be one more reason for people to throw the Republican bums out.

(15,543 posts)No one is going to do it for you. We must flood our Reps and Senators with calls, emails, postcards, whatever.
Do it now. Today. Now.
