(27,811 posts)I don't mind calling, but I'm too angry at the moment.
my husband and I are overseas in support of DoD, and my husband is a veteran. I said my husband and I wanted a special prosecutor, and we wanted Sen. McConnell to personally lead that drive now. I said I'd just read on Votevets.org that Trump was meeting with Russians and was keeping out the US media while allowing Russian media. I said if that were true, why wasn't McConnell himself showing up to Trump's office with articles of impeachment? I reminded him of the number of military members and their families overseas in harms way. I said that if McConnell lost the vote of the military, he would not be reelected.
It was a woman who answered, and when I asked why McConnell wasn't already doing what Goldwater had done, bringing in the Articles of Impeachment, she paused. Maybe doesn't know who Goldwater was?
I can only call as an American citizen; I don't have your bona fides. Good on ya!

(12,653 posts)I was in my early teens when Watergate went down, and I'd admit I'd be a bit fuzzy if I didn't refresh my memory of that era. With the amount of partisan sweeping history under the rug that was going on during the Reagan years, I would be surprised if anyone under 35 would know very much about Nixon or the Watergate cover-up itself, much less Goldwater's part in the removal of a sitting President. And if that person was GOP-inclined, they'd know even less about history before Reagan, other than whatever movie or History Channel show they saw once about a person or event.

(45,484 posts)Seriously, it is better to call your own congressmen and Senators. Being from their district is a plus.

(22,069 posts)I just called again, after trying to get thru for months, and got the same old recording about high call volume. He is my senator, unfortunately.
Here's a letter I finally received from him yesterday:
