Comey associates say he did NOT tell Trump on 3 occasions that he wasn't being investigated, despite Trump's claims.

Messrs. Rosenstein and Sessions found the testimony inexcusable, the official said, because the testimony suggested Mr. Comey would do the same thing again.
Those close to Mr. Comey said he was blindsided by his dismissal, which he saw on TV while at a law-enforcement event in Los Angeles. He was hurt that after years of service, he didnt receive a courtesy call from the White House, a close associate said, and initially thought the television reports were part of an elaborate joke. The White House said it was following protocol in delivering the dismissal letter by hand to his Washington office.
Mr. Comeys associates also denied the claim made by Mr. Trump, in his letter firing Mr. Comey, that the director told him on three occasions that he wasnt under investigation. They said Mr. Comey never gave Mr. Trump any such guidance, which would violate longstanding policies on criminal investigations. That is literally farcical, said one associate.

(55,124 posts)He has proven this time & time again.
I fear what he has done to the presidency & trust is forever gone.

(19,549 posts)However, I'm an optimist. I believe if we elect another sane Democrat to the presidency trust can be resorted. Look at how popular Obama was in the western world for an example.
Trump isn't the end all of our Democracy, global respect or national pride yet. We can still overcome his (orange) stain on our nation.

(19,549 posts)The Senate Dems can ask it and share his answer since it's not sensitive material, correct?

(62,444 posts)I cannot imagine a claim of privilege that would attach to the response called for by the question "Did you tell him that three times?" and "when?"

(58,437 posts)While, I hate what Comey did with the heat of a thousand suns, I was never totally convinced he was a partisan hack.
Looks like Comey will be talking to the Senate. Guess it will be a closed meeting, but the leaks should be instructive.

(16,919 posts)that that he was trying to influence Comey or compromise him which would "violate longstanding policies on criminal investigations." So Donald is a liar and an idiot liar on top of that. He put it in writing, what a totally incompetent idiot.

(6,814 posts)but who, in fact, voted for Hillary. I'd like to think any competent individual had enough evidence going into the voting booth to make a rationale decision. Even folks who were seen as Republican.

That blew Trumps noodle.

(12,894 posts)the Clinton email debacle, I wasn't completely convinced he was pulling for the Don either. In fact, the more I watched him in the Congressional hearings, I saw someone who had a resolve to get to the bottom of this investigation and I think he was more convicted that ever. I think he genuinely felt like he had let Clinton and the public down, even though he would never have said it.
I read an article in the Washington Post this morning that said Comey was seen puttering around in his yard yesterday. It made me sad for him. Trump did a shitty, shitty thing, but Comey will probably remain silent.
And the nightmare continues...
