Trump supporter arrested after yelling slurs at Muslim family on a beach

A Muslim family was enjoying a family reunion and beach vacation in South Padre Island, Texas, on May 2, when a man also staying in the South Padre Pearl Hotel harassed them on the beach outside the property. Alexander Downing of Waterford, Connecticut, was filmed by 19-year-old Noria Alward shouting slurs at her family.

“The insane man came close to the kids and that’s when my uncle stood up to him and defended us and the kids, including my 4 year old cousin, 4 and 2 year old nephews,” Alward wrote in her Facebook description of the clip. “The video here shows a glimpse of what we all had to experience.”

The alcohol fueled, racial slur tirade lasted for 20 minutes according to a Facebook post by Noria Alward.

Alward posted the video on YouTube May 5th.

According to South Padre Island Police reports, "On May 3, 2017, officers were dispatched to 310 Padre Blvd in reference to a disturbance. Officers made contact with Alexander Jennes Downing (35) of Waterford, Connecticut. While making contact with Downing officers determined that he was intoxicated in a public place and was a danger to himself and others."

Officers arrested Downing at the Pearl Resort and charged him with Public Intoxication. In the viral video Downing is seen with a clear plastic cup while shouting "Donald Trump is my president!" and " "You can try to act like your innocence. You can try to [expletive] with me but guess what you will never ever ever stop me. My Christianity will rise above your Sharia law. Your Sharia law I don't mean (expletive) to me!"

A drunken 35-year-old Trump supporter went on a vicious and vulgar tirade against a Muslim family at a South Padre Island, Texas, beach earlier this month, but was left crying in his mugshot after being arrested on a public intoxication charge.

Alexander Jennes Downing, of Waterford, Connecticut, shouted at the family, “Donald Trump will stop you,” during the May 3 incident, which was recorded by 19-year-old Noria Alward, and posted to Youtube.

South Padre Island Police told KVEO-TV officers responded to a disturbance at the Pearl Resort and found Downing “intoxicated in a public place and was a danger to himself and others.”

Downing has previously lived in New Hampshire, Florida and Spring, Texas, and has been arrested several times since 2003, court records show.
