He asked Trump about his economic ties to Russia.
Trump hand waived, bloviated no, no, no and talked about this dumb letter from his lawyers.
In all the specific denials, Trump never said his businesses were not capitalized by Russians, e.g., he had Russian investors.
Holt completely ignored that fact and moved on. He should have gotten Trump on the record on whether or not he had Russian investors in his businesses. We know his sons said they do.
If we want to get rid of this guy, our media has GOT to get better.
What a wasted opportunity.

(115,658 posts)If Holt had asked the question and Trump had claimed he had no Russian investors it wouldn't have made a damn bit of difference, because Trump has already claimed he has no connections with Russia and we already know he's lying. Holt could have his lie "on the record," which it already is; and we know that he won't tell the truth to anybody anyhow.

(1,846 posts)His words are directionally to Russia. IN RUSSIA.
That's much different than saying my Turkish hotels have no Russian investors...or my Caribbean resort has no investors FROM Russia.
Holt blew it.

(115,658 posts)Trump will never admit to that (though his sons have done so), so it's up to the investigators to find out.

(1,387 posts)Did it not occur to Holt to ask that follow up ? Is it respect for the office? Bad journalism or intimadation ?
Please, I'm tired of the "MSM money rules all " flippancy ,not that it isn't valid . What else is driving lackluster journalism ?

(115,658 posts)kind of pointless, because he lies like other people breathe and he says different things on different days and other things that are completely at odds from what his staff might have said the same day. It would be almost like interviewing a crazy person. Oh, wait, it's exactly like interviewing a crazy person.

(115,658 posts)It seems completely impossible to get honest or consistent answers from him. I commend Lester Holt for at least keeping a straight face; I don't think I could.

(33,545 posts)Hopefully if he does another real news interview, he will be asked specifically if there is any money from any Russian institution or person invested in his bussiness here or abroad.
His side stepp was obvious too me.

(7,473 posts)I wanted Holt to ask Trump if he told Flynn to make the call about sanctions to the Russians. That would explain why Flynn wasn't fired. (He was only doing what he was told to do.) A request from Trump to undermine the foreign policy of the United States would look very suspicious. Why go so far out of his way to help the Russians? Payback for some hacking?
Trump and the White House keep saying that Flynn lied to Pence. What did Flynn tell Trump? Isn't that more important?
