A Modest Proposal.....

how many letters like this can we generate to members of Congress? Find your congress member here: http://www.house.gov/representatives/find/ and have at it. I'm sending this letter to my representative today. Feel free to appropriate all or some of its contents as you see fit. Editorial criticism is welcome.

Dear (your representative's name here):

I am writing to you about a matter of grave importance. Our nation is in peril and it is incumbent upon you as an elected official and member of the House of Representatives to take immediate and affirmative action to protect our national interests. The President of the Untied States has engaged in, and continues to engage in, actions that threaten our country and endanger the democracy that every American cherishes. I urge you to fulfill your responsibilities as a member of Congress, and in accordance with the oath of office you took upon your election. It is your obligation to meet the danger he poses to the safety and stability of the United States and take all necessary and available measures to safeguard the nation.

It is reasonably clear that there are at least four grounds that warrant congressional action to remove Donald Trump from the Office of President of the United States. First, he and members of his presidential campaign conspired with a foreign power to disrupt the electoral process that is the foundation of a free democracy in order to obtain the office he now holds. Once in office, he has conspired with members of his administration to obstruct and prevent a full and complete investigation into those efforts to corrupt and influence the 2016 Presidential election. As president, he and his family have continued to hold financial ties to, and pursue business interests with foreign powers. This jeopardizes his ability to fairly and appropriately carry out his duties as President and is prohibited by the Constitution. Finally, as President, he engages in behavior that is alarming and indicative of a deep disrespect for the institutions of the American government, a contempt for constitutional safeguards and ignorance of the principals that have guided this nation since its inception.

The responsibility to protect our national interests and the shared values that are inherent to American democracy go far beyond any partisan politics or parochial interests. The current President needs to be held accountable and it is up to you and your fellow representatives to carry out your constitutional duties as members of a co-equal branch of government and protect these values. The United States has been a beacon of hope and justice to the world at large for over two centuries. Currently we are led by a man who engages in petty conflicts, personal vendettas and who exhibits bizarre and irrational behaviors. The actions of the President in just the short time he has held office threaten, not only our international standing, but the peace and security of our nation.

I therefore call on you as my representative and the representative of tens of thousands of our fellow citizens living in this district to take the immediate steps necessary to appoint a special prosecutor to fully investigate the conduct of the President and his associates and, if necessary, institute articles of impeachment to remove him from office. This is a seminal point in our nation's history. Future generations will look back at this moment in time and judge us by what we either did or failed to do. What side of history will you be on?

Thank you for this opportunity to have my voice heard. Please take these remarks into consideration and allow them to guide you in carrying out your duties as my congressional representative.

Sincerely,

(Your name here)
