James Clapper just confirmed that Trump is lying about the Comey/ Trump dinner.

He was just interviewed by Andrea Mitchell and said he was with Comey the DAY OF the infamous dinner. There was a retirement party for Clapper that day and Comey spoke to Clapper at the party and told him HE HAD BEEN INVITED BY TRUMP to have dinner at the White House. Comey expressed a deep concern over the appearances that his presence at the dinner could present, but admitted that he could not refuse to attend. Clapper basically said who calls the White House and asks the president to dinner. Said Trump's claims that Comey was appealing for his job did not sound credible and doubted that Comey would tell Trump he was not a subject of the investigation.

Clapper clarified that he himself NEVER stated that the Trump campaign had been cleared of all charges of collusion as Trump has claimed. His comments to the media were based upon his knowledge at the time of the interview Trump keeps quoting. Clapper further clarified that in his role he would not have been privy to the details of the ongoing FBI investigation.

Clapper also refuted the claims that Comey had lost the respect of the people within the FBI and stated that he worked closely with the FBI and saw instead a deep respect for Comey within the bureau.

7. There was also an interesting batch of questions about Michael Flynn who at one time

reported to Clapper. He was complementary of Flynn's military service but very professionally stated that basically Flynn was in over his head in the role of defense intelligence chief under Obama. He spoke of how that was handled (contrasted to Trump's handling of the Comey firing) allowing Flynn to retire.

He said Flynn did not posses the "skill set" required to serve as Trump's NSA.
