(57,349 posts)The fact that a progressive even has a shot in blood red Montana is encouraging.
Go Rob and Bernie! GOTV for the Singing Cowboy!

(23,308 posts)Will be out of town for work. Darn it!!! We're suffering through nonstop ads for Gianforte on local tv and radio up here. Hoping to pull out an upset in favor of Rob Quist!!

(28,151 posts)Montana's not all that liberal. In fact it's rather conservative. I wonder how this will play out and hope it doesn't have the same results as that mayoral race.

(28,151 posts)Here's hoping Bernie's a help in this case. Lots of Quist's fundraising FB posts feature pic of Bernie so he's clearly going after those donors. I'm more surprised at the presence in MT though.
I've been donating (long before the Bernie pics showed up) and hope to hell Quist wins!

(28,151 posts)And, coming from MI, I know all about this.

(4,492 posts)I believe their governor was re-elected last year (his name escapes me) at the same time the state voted for Cheeto.
It also means that when you figure out vote totals, you have a baseline of a successful Democratic race to look at.

(28,151 posts)It can mean many things. Michigan. We have it all and then some as far was what it means goes.
I am hopeful about Montana (I have supported Quist more than the other special elections & causes I've been donating to). Guess I'm skittish after that mayoral race bad judgement.

(4,492 posts)And it is so much easier to write a field plan and to find out where the votes are when there's a history of a Democrat winning the district.
JNelson6563
(28,151 posts)redistricting can play a role and how long ago said district went Dem. MI has been quite a thing to scratch the head over. It can be a bit like Montana, fickle.
crazycatlady
(4,492 posts)And they have recent Dem winners in 2012 and 2016.
I had to do a field plan for an R-30 district. Finding votes was next to impossible.

(28,151 posts)If you're ever bored look at the electoral map of northern MI. OMG And yeah, lucky MT on the gerrymandered US House!
crazycatlady
(4,492 posts)Try southwest VA. The district is not gerrymandered though (hard to gerrymander 28 counties).
I very well could be sent to MI. THat's one state that I haven't been to yet and I'm always trying to check one more off my list.

(624 posts)Sanders is such an asset - going all over the USA promoting Dem candidates.
An unbelievable advocate of Democratic values and candidates...

(31,387 posts)Excerpt:
"I'm excited to have Bernie Sanders come to Big Sky Country to witness the grassroots support behind our campaign and share the message that we need more elected leaders fighting for working class families, instead of millionaires, corporations and special interests," Quist said in a statement.
In the final weeks of the race, recent polls reflect a tightening race. Democratic and Republican campaign committees, as well as outside groups, are continuing to pour money into the race.
