There are so few Republicans with the backbone or the character to do what is right. It is discouraging, to say the least.
Comey, with all his faults and his role in the last election, has somewhat redeemed himself with his standing up to the dictator, Trump, in my opinion.
He must have known he was on very thin ice and that his days were numbered when he refused to kiss the ring of the Leader? He could not have been surprised with what happened when he asked for more money to investigate the Trump/Russian connection.
I have a hunch that the rise and fall of James Comey will once again see the rise of James Comey.

(111,052 posts)He thought they were so pissed off at Comey for what he did to Hillary that they would be willing to overlook his threat to our nation when he fired Comey in the middle of maybe the most important investigation in our lifetimes. In fact, he thought they would praise him.

(16,104 posts)My problem with Comey is not "how he wronged Hillary."
My problem is how he superseded DoJ policy and procedure, as if he answers to no one.
We had an FBI Director who answered to no one - Hoover - and he established a shadow government making him virtually untouchable.
The president picks the Director, and the Senate confirms. The FBI Director then serves at the pleasure of the president for up to ten years, when the process repeats.
Comey is damaged goods and he did it to himself.
Loyalty oath?
As FBI Director, you don't answer to anyone?
If we don't vote that office in, then he damn sure doesn't answer to us! But he does answer to the Attorney General and the President of the United States.
Or - like last year - we can see a rogue FBI Director screw us over immeasurably - the way Hillary was screwed over!

(58,785 posts)demand from Rump, indicative all by itself that he really, really does not understand ethics and is in far over his head.
Comey is not. He could NOT accede and to do so could even have ended at a federal penitentiary. That's how bad it was.
Plus, only a total idiot would have acceded. That's how clearly headed for indictments and sentencing many members of this administration are. Note almost all qualified, competent Republicans refused to take any part in this administration, or put another way, to shoot their careers in the head.
So, zero respect earned, all respect still lost. Comey merely abided--THIS time--by the duties of his position outlined on page one of his employee manual.
