Rotting teeth but voted Trump.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/sf/national/2017/05/13/the-painful-truth-about-teeth/?hpid=hp_hp-top-table-main_rigged-teeth-1109am%3Ahomepage%2Fstory&utm_term=.050b8ff9469c

SALISBURY, Md. — Two hours before sunrise, Dee Matello joined the line outside the Wicomico Civic Center, where hundreds of people in hoodies, heavy coats and wool blankets braced against a bitter wind.

Inside, reclining dental chairs were arrayed in neat rows across the arena’s vast floor. Days later, the venue would host Disney on Ice. On this Friday morning, dentists arriving from five states were getting ready to fix the teeth of the first 1,000 people in line.

Matello was No. 503. The small-business owner who supports President Trump had a cracked molar, no dental insurance and a nagging soreness that had forced her to chew on the right side of her mouth for years.

“It’s always bothering me,” she said. And although her toothache wasn’t why she voted for Trump, it was a constant reminder of one reason she did: the feeling that she had been abandoned, left struggling to meet basic needs in a country full of fantastically rich people...

But nearly four months into Trump's presidency, Matello sees Trump backing a Republican health care plan that appears to leave low-income people and the elderly worse off.

“I am hearing about a number of people who will lose their coverage under the new plan,” Matello said. “Is Trump the wolf in grandma's clothes? My husband and I are are now saying to each other: ‘Did we really vote for him?’ ”

You can be smart and not a particularly mean-spirited person and still be an awful judge of character. That's the thing that flabbergasted me about Trump getting as many votes as he did. The man is an blatant con artist and a moral disaster zone. Why were so many fooled? I've literally heard a colleague with doctorate in a technical field talk about how Trump is obviously one of the great "business and financial geniuses of the world."

To a first post challenging ACA is not very kind. It's hard for me not to flame you beyond all reason.

ACA does not guarantee dental and vision coverage. Some of the HMO plans in it do cover medically necessary treatments - like diabetic eye exams....

However, the article is not about whether ACA covers dental or vision. You either already know that, or have a cognitive issue.

In case understanding what you read is a problem for you.... the article is about someone who hoped Trump would make life better, not harder.

ACA was a step - not a good one in my personal opinion. I was against it. I'm in favor of Medicare for all - and also change Medicare so it's a national plan not a local block grant plan - that covers all medically necessary treatments to every citizen anywhere in the USA - with out of pocket costs determined by ability to pay.

No one needs "coverage" except the stockholders that benefit from all those insurance premiums. What we need is access to medically necessary treatments when we need it. Not in a month because everyone is so backed up...

Welcome to DU. I hope your 2nd post sits with me better than your first.

We need to hone in on people's PERSONAL economy.

I stopped giving a hoot about "the economy" a very long time ago. Wall street is doing fantastic. Me.... not so much.

When we discuss "the economy" the assumption is made all those investment gains help across the board. At one time that was partly true. But long gone are the days rich people getting richer mean better wages and benefits for the rest of us.

to people with teeth rotting in their heads. And there are A LOT of Americans with rotting teeth. I'm trying to remember the first time I caught wind of those dental clinics... think it was Olbermann coverage during the Dubya years. Americans desperate for dental and health care should not be in "the greatest nation on earth."

"Hone" means to sharpen or to make more acute.

-One hones the blade of an axe or one's skills.
-A missile homes in on its target, perhaps by using a homing device.

I see this error everywhere, even in newspapers and books, and the English teacher (and freelance editor) in me cringes every time.

May 2017

Most of the differences are listed there. You noted one of them: "hone" where English uses "home."

Other grammatical rules of Republicanese that help in deciphering it:

Never use "your" and "you're" correctly twice in a row. Random correct context is permitted.
The same goes for "lose" and "loose."
The same goes for "two," "to," and "too."
The same goes for "there," "they're" and "their."

Frequently use an apostrophe to form a plural (e.g."The Clinton's are making headline's&quot , whereas English does not.

Always write "to all intensive purposes" instead of "to all intents and purposes."

There are MANY other examples of the differences between English and Republicanese. Just go (if you can stand it) to almost any right wing web site. Once you can decipher Republicanese, you can almost understand half of what they are ranting about.

But I haven't yet memorized the Republicanese-English dictionary in its entirety.

And, by the way, there is another one: In Republicanese, always use an apostrophe ("it's&quot where English does not, and vice-versa.

it's not just the economy but the DISPARITY that we have in this country. I don't begrudge anyone who becomes well off through their own risk taking or hard work (nothing like what the trump family has done to get their so-called wealth), but what infuriates me to no end is that we keep touting how we are the richest country in the world and yet there are the extremely rich and then there are many, many people who are just trying to pay their bills and feed themselves and their families. They have to work more than one part time job because the overlords don't want to give them benefits. We have a part time workforce for the most part.

We also have a rapidly growing elderly population who are not going to have enough money for their health care needs, food and housing. Shouldn't everyone at the very least be secure in knowing that they will be able to pay for the basic needs? I don't want to speak for all seniors, but I do think that as you get older you become more realistic about what you want for the rest of your life. Trip to Hawaii or Europe or second vacation home in a warm climate for the winters? I used to think that would be nice, but now I'll just be satisfied if I can stay healthy, have friends, afford to go to the doctor and pay my Medicare supplement premiums and have a reliable car. It's quickly becoming impossible

She trusted the liar, whom she no doubt witnessed was lying, and she ignored all of the reports about how he screwed students of tRump University, bilked contractors, took money from his own charitable foundation, had 6 bankruptcies, groped women (even from the horse's mouth), and she thought, "Yes, I'll vote for the rich guy. He cares about me." She also decided the GOP, who NEVER cares about average citizens, would give her a break in life. Foolish.

it's that they want their "news" in soundbites and twitter feeds. They're lazy thinkers.

There was a time when people who didn't follow politics closely would at least recognize that maybe it wouldn't be a good thing to go and vote unless they had researched the candidates and issues. Now everyone thinks they're informed and educated if they've caught the scrawl on a CNN broadcast.

Progressives have been deluding themselves with this nonsense for centuries. These kinds of people do not vote their own rational self-interest and they never will, no matter how badly the right tortures them. Either they are so stupid they will vote for whoever feeds them the dumbest and most contemptuous drivel (almost always the right), or they will vote cultural and community "values." "We're Republicans 'round these parts, ya hear. Ain't gonna vote for no urban freeloaders who want us to pay for their kids' hot school lunches!"

They are never going to have some "hey, I do believe I've been exploited for 50 years" revelation. Even the handful whom Trump squeezes so tight they scream and end up voting in desperation for a Democrat in 2018 or 2020 will be back to voting reliably GOP by 2024.
