Top Trump official says we shouldn't take care of someone who eats poorly and gets diabetes

Top Trump official says we shouldn’t take care of someone who ‘eats poorly and gets diabetes’
So much for compassionate conservatism.
Jack Jenkins Senior Religion Reporter at ThinkProgress. May 13

A top White House official tried to defend the American Health Care Act (AHCA)— the GOP’s response to Obamacare — earlier this week by implying that health care systems shouldn’t help someone who “sits at home, eats poorly and gets diabetes.”

According to the Washington Examiner, Mick Mulvaney of the Office of Management and Budget delivered the line on Thursday while speaking to the LIGHT Forum at Stanford University. Mulvaney was asked whether he agreed with the “Jimmy Kimmel test” — or the idea famously forwarded by the late-night show host that “No parent should ever have to decide if they can afford to save their child’s life.” Kimmel made the quip while delivering an impassioned account of his newborn son’s struggle to survive a congenital heart disease.

People's hate and prejudice outweigh the well being of themselves and their own families.

Go figure.

We have had unrestricted right wing hate propaganda for 30 years or so in this country and it works! Hitler knew it and so does Fox news/Hate radio and the republican party.

They are more the enemy of the country than any foreign entity or terrorist group. The civil war is still being fought in a cold war. It is going to become hot again shortly. We need to finally crush the Confederate ideology that has morphed into the Putin Publikkkan cult.

If you are poor and/or sick, its because you are a sinner and cursed by God. It's a heretical teaching that is uniquely America/capitalist/republican/greed.

Never mind that Jesus said it was easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than a rich man to go to heaven. And Peter, his chief apostle saying silver and gold have I none.

Pardon my French for a moment here.

Remember the criticism Michelle Obama received when she launched the School Lunch program to help teach and assist kids, and schools to provide healthier lunch choices to combat childhood obesity? Conservatives like this asshole raised their hands in horror as for some woman tomlecture them on what to feed kids, let alone themselves lead by example for a healthier America?

Mick Mulvaney has no shame. He exemplifies the arrogance and sense of privilidge Conservative Republicans like him feel entitled to. They have theirs, the rest can go to hell in a handbasket. People like that forget what Jesus Christ preached and use their so-called Christianity for their convenience when having to give a fucking shit about others is too bothersome.

Those are the facts, and I am sticking to them.

...other human beings with a conscious. I can't IMAGINE the outrage that 1,000 or so 'stay at homers' could induce by not 'staying at home' and actually FOLLOWING this good gentleman's advice. Maybe they should get out of the house and GO SOMEWHERE, do something ACTIVE!

...like find someone's house to surround in rotating shifts until a better 'policy understanding' were achieved. No threatening, no screaming, no chanting, no partying (well...okay, SOME partying ), just sitting out there quietly. Some kind people could order nutrition for him and have it delivered, some kind people could, from the kindness of their hearts, ask UPS to leave some boxes, others could sign him up for new, exciting interest magazines...there's all kinds of good charity work that could be accomplished outside this good advisor's home! And outside work, and outside school, and outside the doctor's office, and....

It's like people don't realize they outnumber some other types of people about 50,000 to 1. Instead, there's this anguished sobbing about how horrible it is, then OH HEY WHAT'S THIS ON TV?! IT'S TIME FOR THE WALKIN' DEAD.

He better never pull that holier-than-thou crap about how good and faithful a "Christian" he is.

That's one EPIC violation of Matthew 25:35-45. That's the one about "whatever you do to the least of My brethren, you do to Me".

Just how does he propose to determine that?

Diabetes is beastly strong (but fortunately relatively benign) in my family. Everyone 60 or older who is a descendant of my maternal grandfather has diabetes. Period. That includes me. Some of this motley crew are, or were, obese. Some (including my maternal grandfather) always were skinny as-a-rail, by any standards. Some of us exercise regularly - some don't. Some have lost weight after diagnosis - by up to 35% (10% used to be considered the "cure" weight) with zero impact on the diabetes.

So - regardless that some of us LOOK like we sat home and ate ourselves into diabetes, the reality is that it is the hereditary persistence of this particular strain that hits everyone in my heredity line in our late 5th, early 6th decades.
