President Trump and his team are deeply entangled in the controversy over the firing of FBI director James Comey and there are several potholes on the road ahead.
Top of the critical list is the extent to which Republican lawmakers distance themselves from Trump, or stick by him.
On Friday, GOP dissent grew deeper when Sen. Dean Heller (R-Nev.) said the appointment of an independent prosecutor to look into alleged links between Trump associates and Russia should be on the table, if congressional probes into the matter encounter obstacles. Heller is up for re-election next year, and his seat is widely seen as the top Democratic target.
The Nevadan is one of about a dozen GOP senators who have expressed concern or criticism about the presidents actions.

(837 posts)Getting re-elected is on the line. That is no repleacement for HAVING A SPINE in the first place.
I have had to make Professional work-related moral decisions about "right vs wrong" that have threatened my livelihood ... so I got no sympathy for any of the GOP on this.
If you are a leader you either DO THE RIGHT THING for all, as best you can, or let somebody else lead. Period.

(24,780 posts)Like there's a sealed indictment against Trump? He has no idea what he's dealing with. He has no clue that you can't just do what you want like launder Russian money through your properties and collude with the Russians and think you can manage the whole thing by sheer will. For the first time in his life he'll have to face consequences.
