.
When Utopia performed a song called, "Swing to the Right," I thought they were Republicans, at first.
A little later, I found out that the song was making fun of them.
Here's Todd, now.
Hes coming down the escalator with a girl from east of here because the man in the tin foil hat is leading like a teenage girl. He puts the pluto in plutocrat, he hasnt got time for losers, unless they do what he demands, go the lyrics.
Rundgren cautions Trump fans that his shows will have attacks, insults and mockery for the new president.
I guarantee that in this show if youre a Trump supporter, you will likely be offended. Let the buyer beware! I mean, if you cant take a joke, or you cant admit that youve made a mistake, you dont belong with the rest of us, he explained.
Even if the trigger warning scares off paying Rundgren fans, hes willing to take it, saying hes not sure they provide any value anyway.
And also, I dont understand your frickin values. Because Im not singing about that. If you dont understand that basic thing, youre just fooling yourself, he said.

(17,420 posts)I've worked shows at fairgrounds in the Shenandoah Valley where the artists had songs with lyrics containing code words like "those people", "Real American" etc. It has been about five years since I saw one of these. These artists tour flyover country.
In the green room the artists were making fun of the ignorant fans out there and were scooting back and forth to the bus to smoke pot. They were catering to that audience to make money, but to my way of thinking they were enabling evil.
not fooled
(5,801 posts)Not that the artists were ridiculing the dimwits in the audience, but that the ignoramuses didn't get the message. Might have helped wake them up.
Oh, and your story applies on so many levels in 'Murica--just change the names: in public, faux/flush/other RW media figures, cynical RW politicians, koch bros., etc. etc. etc. spout the propaganda, but in private ridicule the ignorant 'Muricans who buy it.

(3,827 posts)Todd Rundgren and U2 in 1983- My cousin was a student at UNC at the time and invited my young seven year old ass. For me it opened up my world to music and social issues. And I've listened to U2 and Rundgren ever since.
It's great to see him taking a stand against Trump- More rockers should do the same.

Just cause it is a fun song...
I've liked Todd's stuff since Nazz, but this is one of my favorites among his songs. (And it pretty much sums up my prevailing attitude about work! )
Pretty funny that a song from a contractual obligation album became one of his biggest smash hits. Emperor of the Highway from the same album is also a hoot -- a hilarious sendup of road-raging asshole drivers:

(18,614 posts)I always loved his work and had the opportunity to see him outdoors at the "Taste of Cleveland" event.
He came out wearing a pink dress, played the set without once referring to it, wrapped it up and went home. Odd guy, but great artist. Maybe he lost a bet.
The intro to "International Feel" was one of the ways we showed off our high-end stereos back in the '70s.

(51,565 posts)Roger Waters could issue the same to Floyd fans since his current work in themed around the Donald. People at his shows in Sept. actually booed him when he had tRump's fat face on a the big pig and on his "wall". When I saw young people acting this way at a show before the election it was further verification for me that Hillary was definitely going to lose.
