It is wishful thinking that the GOP will dump Trump. He is the best for their agenda. The more chaotic things are the more the GOP can do in secret. And even if they were to get rid of Trump they have a compliant Pence who will sign what ever they pass.
Chaos serves the GOP in that there is a Cabinet that can destroy all the agencies they hate and want to end.
I do not believe there is a single Republican that will help the country. They are a totally lost cause now. And the are on board with the Russians. That is because they are so grateful that Hillary did not win based on the aid of the Russians. And Comey of course.

(16,107 posts)the electoral remedy will be rendered null and void if they get their way.
Do you think Kobach and his panel will do anything but add to the voter suppression they've already started? I'd be surprised if we don't have to sign loyalty oaths at the polls to receive our ballots (helpfully already marked for the Orange dispshit and his chosen flying monkeys).
I can't see a scenario in which they allow a legitimate vote to take place.

(18,837 posts)Nothing other than that will move them to action. It doesn't matter if actual crimes are revealed. Paul Ryan's dream came true. Whether TrumpCare ever passes the Senate, in Ryan's draft or a completely unrecognizable edit, it proved to Paul Ryan that the is now in a position to get what he wants, and that will only embolden the rest of the GOP moving forward. Until they feel a sense of irreversible personal risk by siding with Trump, they're going to side with Trump.
End of story.

(10,602 posts)I worry that their actions no matter how unpopular signal their confidence that the next election really won't be an election. They will have total control of the process. I believe they will take extreme action to "stop the vote".

(2,120 posts)... I respectfully disagree with your assessment that the GOP won't impeach Trump. As you said, they have a compliant Pence. They don't NEED Trump. What they want is to ram their agenda through and they can do that just fine via Pence.
If the pressure is kept on Trump, and the scandals keep coming up, and the bullshit keeps flowing, and his approval rating keeps tanking, the GOP will be running scared because they know they are tied to that filthy scumbag. They can impeach Trump and get him out then install Pence.
There might be short-term fallout because they originally backed the monster, but they can try to use this to their advange to proclaim themselves heroes who "saved" the country.
And going forward they can hope all the anti-Trump activists go home, Pence continues to push the exact same agenda, and they can dismiss any opposition by stating: "Hey, we gave you guys what you wanted; we got rid of Trump. Now let us slash taxes for the rich, eliminate abortion and mandate Christian-led prayer in schools."
