There is such a thing as bad publicity, he has found since taking office, but he will pretend as hard as he can for as long as he can that he is adored by the people who count.

He had some lines on the #1 show in America. That's enough for him to claim these were all Trump fans, and fans of everything he's ever done. While I'm sure he'd prefer tangible shows of fealty, he's more concerned with turning whatever he can get into press releases such as his idiot electoral maps.

It's only since he took office that that fakery is being seriously questioned, and he is so far unequipped to drum up any evidence of secret popularity. He's still fighting his old war on a new battlefield.
