An article sent to me by a friend arguing against impeaching Trump.

Don’t Impeach: The Liberal Case for Not Removing Trump

Democrats are excited. They are beginning to sense that they have Donald Trump right where they want him.

And they do. Trump is doing more damage to himself and his party every day. Every new stupid statement, every new blunder, and every new scandal make it more and more likely that Democrats will win big in 2018 and 2020.

-----

Even if it were possible—and I still maintain, with 24 House Republicans and 19 Republican Senators needed, that it is highly unlikely—the absolute stupidest, most self-defeating thing Democrats can push for right now is the impeachment and removal of President Trump.

No. Keep him in office. Politically, Trump is the goose that’s laying a treasure trove of golden eggs. Let him spend four years making such a toxic wreck of the Republican Party that disgusted voters won’t want to get anywhere near the GOP for a decade. Let him finish the job that George W. Bush started and turn the party into a smoldering ruin at last.

For the sake of our country, Donald Trump needs to be removed from office if possible. What you describe is a cynical at best and almost as bad Trump idea at worse...he needs to go period.

impeachable offenses. I do believe, however, that by staying in office he will do the Republican party irreparable harm.

I also believe that Pence would be even more dangerous than Trump, in the long run. He seems more reasonable, but his beliefs would filter out into legislation that could be devastating for women and minorities. Republicans are starting to push back against Trump, but I think they would stand behind Pence 100%.

15. No one is more dangerous than Trump who thinks nukes are on the table in Korea.

Pence is an ass but less dangerous than Trump.

that we have the luxury of waiting around for four years to remove the orange menace? When does the war start? When do we start rounding up gays like in Chechnya, when do women loose their right ot choose and the poor loose their medical care?
We don't have four years to wait around for political advantage. If we, as a party, cannot put together a platform to defeat the GOP without waiting for total destruction of the republic... we don't deserve to win.

I don't think that our country and our democracy can survive 4 years of him.

At this rate, by December he'll be inviting Russian troops to occupy the United States and tweeting out nuclear launch codes.

him, otherwise we'll have Pence who will do Ryan and McConnell's evil bidding while throwing in some even worse stuff of his own.

Trump is definitely on the ropes now though.

This shit is serious. We're in fear for our country and for our allies. This isn't a Paul Ryan gotcha point, this is protection for Americans and American values.

Not everything is political and this has to stop. It's breaking us in half, and Russian financed it.

I guess the author has a current passport and a place in the world to hide. Some of us have to stay here and witness this.

We have to gain control of at least 25 state legislature in the flyover states.

But this is also a pretty shitty argument:

"Let's let this venal asshole and his boatload of venal assholes shred the Constitution and fuck up the judiciary and loot the Treasury and start some wars and take a big stinking dump on our last chance to avert climate breakdown so that we can enjoy a temporary political advantage! Oh, and let's be sure to let them do it for a full four years!"

Well, hell, why not eight years?
