Is that the tabloid rags with t's pic get turned around. After all, there are kids coming through the checkouts with their parents, and kids should not be exposed to something that vulgar.

At the grocery, there was a magazine special (Newsweek?) on t. Somehow, the Michelle Obama mag kept getting in front of it. Much more attractive. BTW, the Michelle mags were almost sold out, but the rack of t mags was still full. Made it hard to squeeze the Michelle mag in front. Who, me?

...I think we should think about leaving Ivanka and Melania alone. I know their perception and practice of feminism is off the mark and they are completely out of touch with the other 99.999% of women out there. But, in the long run I think they're staying pretty quiet and are essentially harmless so far. The damage they're doing is minimal.

A lot of women do admire them - even some non-Republican, non-whack-job women - and we risk alienating more than the Klan-centric right wing when we come down hard on the Trumpettes.

I get that people will disagree with this assessment. But we give our detractors firepower against us when we get overly nasty about Melania and Ivanka. I love Bill Maher, but his Ivanka incest joke was too rough and undignified even for him. I gave it a chuckle, but it energized right-wing fucks like crazy.

We need to reserve our firepower for Trump, Pence and the cons who are truly threatening America. When we pick apart peripheral characters, we incentivize the right to inflate their rhetoric and their ranks more that it would otherwise be inflated.

Of course, they should be scrutinized.

Barron, age 11, not involved, is a different matter. Off limits.

If Tiffany stays out, mostly, give her a pass. If she immerses herself, she's an adult, so scrutiny is correct.
DT Jr and Eric were avtive FT in the campaign, and they are running the businesses, those in the so called blind trust (a joke and a lie) and others. IMO, that makes them subject to scutiny too.

All of 45's kids with Ivana are fair game. Or as I like to call them, the Children of the Corn.

IMO the only kids of politicians that should not be off limits are the ones that put themselves into the spotlight (and not just family photos for campaign literature). And IMO ALL minor children should be off limits.

Tue May 16, 2017, 01:53 PM
May 2017

There is a small book in the Philosophy section titled, "On Bullshit." I take as many copies of that book as the store has, and I put them on top of RW books, so they're quite literally ON bullshit.

I also like to move pro-RW books to the Fiction section. And when it's clear that the person shelving the books is prominently displaying only RW books, I cover them up with better selections.

If they ever have a section labeled "Donald Trump Books," I would fill it up with Mein Kampf and a few other choice selections. Book store prankery is fun.

I know you think you're being clever, but bookstore employees are around the shelves, displays and end caps all day and inevitably, the books are returned to where they're supposed to be shelved. I saw these kind of pranks done a few times and it just made extra work for me and my co-workers who only had a limited time to refill the bookshelves with the prior day's deliveries.

No way an employee did this, customers did. And, employees had to fix the CORPORATE MANDATED endcap and reshelve all the books, and possibly get yelled at by wingnut customers. All for barely above minimum wage.

Having been a retail slave in my youth, I never, ever think this stuff is funny.

I worked in a location that was in a very liberal area and one in a very conservative area. I only saw these "pranks" in the liberal location. Every time I'd see it, I'd be slightly amused, but never thought it was anything other than juvenile behavior. And I encountered customers who thought the store carried too many conservative authors or too many liberal ones. For each store, their inventory is all about what sells in that store's particular location, period.

Obamanut2012 is right, the end cap displays come down from the store's corporate HQ. They are pre-programmed and the individual store doesn't have a say.

And, tbh, most of the political/fad/current events books end up being returned to the publisher, then returned later as bargain/clearance books.
