(11,088 posts)And it only gives me ten slots
Figure out a way to put fifty million options in a poll with ten slots, and I'll buy you a Cracker Jack.

(80,708 posts)Yeah, I'm sure that if you live in a Manhattan echo chamber, everyone in Washington state lives in a wood shack with a sasquatch.
And pot legalization is still a big stoner joke.
Still, Gavin Newsom is likely the next governor of the 6th largest economy on the planet, a state with 34 million straw-chewing podunk hicks. He had a prominent speaking gig at the 2016 convention.
Jay Inslee is not "low profile", either.

(11,686 posts)our final choice I would chose her without a second thought. Yeah, yeah I know Biden is old but I think he is in pretty good health. I would bet he is ACTUALLY in better health than trump.

(22,980 posts)Mr. Kander is a breath of fresh air. I financially supported his Senate run even though I live in New York. He could've been a great break from the pedantry of Senator Blunt. Alas.
Mr. Kander is the nephew of a client of mine and I had the opportunity to spend part of an evening with him. He's smart, curious, funny and younger-looking in person than on TV. Although he might not satisfy leftist purists, who could? The only thing holding him back is he needs one more big job, like Senator or Governor. Then he'll be ready for the big chair.

(2,404 posts)He has been great with the Russia probe.
He is young, competent and intelligent.
It is going to take a woman with the intelligence and experience of Hillary Clinton and immense personal popularity to defeat any man the Repubs put forth.
Like it or not, misogyny is alive and well in the good ol' USA. And elections are, in part, a game of showmanship.

(80,708 posts)I just think there's a serious East Coast beltway bubble, and it skews our political conversation in a bad way. It irritates me a bit.
For the record, I like Eliz. Warren and I like Cory Booker.
I posted a slightly tongue-in-cheek poll in response: (only slightly) ... waiting to see how long it takes for people to figure out that 9 out of the 10 choices are from the West Coast.

(11,088 posts)I also just don't see a lot of exciting candidates from our part of town.
Except maybe Ron Wyden, Kamala Harris, Jay Inslee, Kate Brown, Villairagosa, the Castro brothers and... again I get your point. There are also a massive amount more of statewide elected dems on the east coast due to more states to choose from, than there is in the west :/

(985 posts)The Democrats don't just need to win the Presidency in 2020, they need the biggest possible wave election that carries over to governorships/state legislatures to undo gerrymandering in the next redistricting.
It's a long ways off and I've voted for every Democratic nominee since Dukakis and will support whoever it is. At this point, maybe wrongly, I have the perception that Cory Booker is the most charismatic one of the bunch - a very passionate, articulate speaker - Obama like. In a general election, it would be hard for it not to feel like a referendum on Obama vs what the Republicans have given us. Tim Ryan as VP could be the blue collar midwestern balance to play like his Biden.
I'm from Mass. and I like Elizabeth Warren, but I see how triggered the right gets over her. I think it's largely sexist, but I'd be worried that they've succeeded in demonizing her like they did with Hillary and even if she won, that could hold down the margins and not give us the wave that we need.
I'd be enthusiastic for Al Franken, but I think he's been pretty clear that he wouldn't run.
Tiggeroshii
(11,088 posts)Both are corporate dems but are charismatic enough to give us that wave election that we really, really need.

(11,088 posts)With Patrick I can't help but remember how he and Obama shared the same speech writers and gave similarly motivational and inspirational talks when campaigning. Booker, to me is far more demonstrably charismatic but less rhetorically so. I would be hard pressed to find anybody else who took down a decade long career and machine politician while in the process rescuing neighbors from fires out of burning buildings and personally showing up at elderly resident's homes to plough their snow. If anybody talks the talk and walks the walk, it's booker. Hell, I'm changing my vote! Lol

First things first. No Democratic presidential favorite right now -- they ALL look like a slice of heaven compared to the unbelievable hell we're stuck in at present.
