Manafort got $3.5 million as a "nonrepayable" loan from Trump after leaving the campaign.

http://www.dailykos.com/stories/2017/5/16/1662804/-Paul-Manafort-got-a-3-5-million-tax-free-payback-free-loan-from-unnamed-sources

Paul Manafort got a $3.5 million loan after he left the Trump-campaign.
The loan was taken out by a holding that Manafort created one day after he left the campaign.
The loan was granted by a shell-company whose two biggest owners just so happen to be Trump and an ukrainian guy.

The loan is interest-free.
The contract contains no clauses that Manafort must repay this money.

IANAL or a CPA, but I wouldn't try to get away with this.

Was this reported on Manafort's holding company's 1040? I can't open the link now, due to a slow connection. I am aware that the return is so complicated that mere mortals cannot comprehend it.

Also, Ilsa in post #6 has it right.

Do any accountants want to chime in?

I'm sure he has already maxed out his lifetime exemption of $5 M (or $10 M with spouse countered too) through gifts to his kids -- assuming he reported this, which he probably didn't.

Or more accurately, hush money

It's in the industrial district, not the tourist district, and you can't drive up to it. TRMS speculated that potential partners in the limited partneeship might include the freaking Iranian National Guard, a conduit for financing terrorism.

Talk of conspiracy and Russians is sensational, but good old financial and tax fraud is less sexy but the kind of stuff with real teeth.

Trump partnered with the outfit but that doesn't mean it was trump money. Could be Russian money.
