Kind of like the teenager whose parents made him get a summer job and he hates it so much he's trying everything he can to force his boss to fire him?

(5,754 posts)and now he's in government, where proper behavior is part of the job. He's never had to behave properly or even to know what that means before.

On edit: And why would he change his behavior? He's basically been rewarded for it his entire life.

(12,894 posts)in the Washington Post, I can see how Trump was destined to become the person he is now: arrogant, cocky, bully, but also determine and defiant.
It's really sad, that as a child he was treated with such disdain from his father. While his father probably thought he was doing what he thought was best, it now looks like he just didn't want to take the time to be bothered with dealing with a "rambunctious" kid. This explains his constant need for approval and to be liked.
Also sad is the fact that DT had some real talent, that given the proper nurturing could have told a different story for his life today. Instead, he will be known as the thin-skinned, arrogant, narcissistic, "man-child" who cannot tell the truth.

(4,835 posts)I think he has been a failure all his life, but his wealth hid his incompetence. He is a failure, he can't help but fail.

(733 posts)Example: with Putin's help, a photo-op and leaking of top secret intelligence, most importantly information is from an ally of us, Trump has begun to isolate US from allies. He has already made the State Department impotent and reduced our presence in other countries.
He attacks all centers of power: media, judiciary, intelligence community, Congress, and even the executive branch are unable to work. Once they are subdued he will use legitimate means to take over the government: see rise of Hitler.

(16,423 posts)How does Trump do business?
Step 1: Create a reputation of riches and success by using public relations and media.
Step 2: Wait until the investors come to you.
Step 3: Invest.
Step 4a: If the investment is successful, okay.
Step 4b: If the investment is unsuccessful, extract your money and leave the rest to collapse, ruin and bankruptcy. As long as you got your's, it's fine.
Step 5a: If the investment was successful, boast about it.
Step 5b: If the investment was unsuccessful, ignore it, forget it, never talk about it again. It doesn't count.
Step 6: Wait for new suckers.
Donald Trump does not give a single flying fuck about failing his office or failing the US or failing his voters or anything. In case of failure, he simply walks away and he thinks he can do just that if he runs the US into the ground.

(4,187 posts)In fact, they can't even imagine failing. They imagine themselves to be winning no matter how bad things get.
Everyone needs to stop thinking that a rational adult inhabits Trump's body. He's a narcissist. Here is what that means:
http://www.newstatesman.com/politics/health/2017/02/i-am-special-and-i-am-worthless-inside-mind-narcissist
Second, NPD sufferers have little or no capacity for empathy, and usually relate to other people as objects (as opposed to thinking, feeling beings) whose sole function is to meet the narcissists need for special treatment and admiration known as supply. In order to recruit supply, NPD sufferers become highly skilled at manipulating peoples perceptions of them, acting out what is called a false self the glittering high achiever, the indefatigable do-gooder, the pitiable victim.
The third characteristic is termed splitting, where the world is experienced in terms of two rigid categories either Good or Bad with no areas of grey. As long as others are meeting the narcissists need for supply, they are Good, and they find themselves idealised and showered with reciprocal positive affirmation a process called love-bombing. However, if someone criticises or questions the narcissists false self, that person becomes Bad, and is subjected to implacable hostility.
(snip)
One of the many tragic aspects of NPD is the invariable lack of insight. A narcissists experience of the world is essentially: I am special; some people love me for this, and are Good; some people hate me for it, and are Bad. If people with NPD do present to health services, it is usually because of the negative impacts Bad people are having on their life, rather than because they are able to recognise that they have a psychological health problem.
Emphasis mine.
