The Aggressive Ignorance of the Ignorant

Some people work really hard at a rabid cognitive dissonance that is quite astounding. Once I was talking with a wheat farmer in Washington State who I knew attended a local Church that preached a strict creationist timeline.

I asked him about his irrigation and how old the water was that he was using and he answered "we are down to 10,000 year old water now" (just let that sink in folks, people who don't believe in climate change have to go down in their irrigation wells to water that fell 10,000 years ago). I changed the subject and after a while asked him how old did he think the earth was. "We know that it was created 5,000 years ago".

We are watching some do the same in real time.

First this report about Trump's attempt to slash the Coast Guard

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/checkpoint/wp/2017/03/13/its-nonsensical-to-cut-the-coast-guard-to-pay-for-trumps-border-wall-dozens-of-lawmakers-say/?utm_term=.99a945260ae3

Dozens of lawmakers are urging House leaders who oversee the budget to block any move by the Trump administration to slash Coast Guard funding, saying a proposal to do so is “cause for serious alarm” and “nonsensical” if the president plans to expand the other armed services.

The bipartisan call was issued Monday in a letter to Rep. John Carter (R.-Tex.), who leads the House Appropriations subcommittee on homeland security, and Rep. Lucille Roybal-Allard (D.-Calif.), the subcommittee’s ranking Democrat. The effort was spearheaded by Rep. Duncan D. Hunter (R.-Calif.), who supported Donald Trump during his campaign but disagrees with an Office of Management and Budget proposal to cut about $500 million for a new Coast Guard national security cutter and millions of dollars for long-standing efforts such as Maritime Security Response Teams, which patrol ports and other sensitive waterways for potential terrorists.

And today

President Trump complained that “no politician in history … has been treated worse or more unfairly" during a commencement speech at the Coast Guard Academy in Connecticut Wednesday.

If you watch the video you can hear some applause. I am sure that the majority sat on their hands but there were some who enthusiastically applauded a man who is committing obstruction of justice in real time before our eyes who now tries to play the victim card who tried to cripple the future of the agency that they have pledged to defend and risk their lives and future for just a few weeks ago.

I wonder if the people who clapped in support of the President think that the oceans they will be sailing on is 5,000 years old? Sometimes people don't have access to education, parents who support independent thinking, teachers who will challenge you and so on, but sometimes you just have to work hard to remain stupid.

Which is probably what oils the machinery of cognitive dissonance in their heads
